Santa Monica College Fall 2019 ADN Program

Published

Hello everyone,

I saw that there has not been a thread created for the Fall 2019 ADN SMC cycle. I got the invitation email to take the NLN PAX test and my scheduled test date is March 29th. Does anyone have some study tips or advice on the NLN PAX? Also, are there any other nursing programs you have applied to? I am really eager to get into a nursing program this round and am hoping for some tips. My TEAS score was not that strong and I really do not want to go to West Coast University and pay 180K. Please share experiences and any updates. I wish everyone the best of luck, I know how stressful this whole process is.

@empowerandbelieve They should accept them because California CC's have articulation agreements, but I'd call and ask anyways. If SMC is a top choice for you, it's better be sure.

unapologeticallyCurly, thank you, I will call . Do you have any advice on how to study for the Pax ? LBCC is my first choice since it my home school but i doubt i will get in as most don’t get in the first try . I would however loved to go to SMC and im just going to apply anywhere were i think i might have a shot. I am really trying to avoid going the West Coast University route but im growing desperate because im in my 30’s. Thank you.

@empowerandbelieve Most people bought the red NLN-PAX prep book or the NLN-PAX by Mometrics... You can find them on Amazon or Barnes and Nobles. I'd advise against using TEAS prep material because the contents and time allowance of the tests are different. From what I heard, many questions from the NLN book were on the test.

I didn't study at all because I had a lot going on. I still did decent, but I wish I would have prepared myself better.

I know you're racing the clock. BUT, I'd say avoid West Coast and only use it as a last resort... You don't want to be saddled with $100K+ debt just for a bachelor's degree. And since West Coast is a private school that makes up their curriculum at their own discretion, it's not as respected/reputable in nursing.

Did you also try applying at El Camino or Harbor College?

unapologeticallyCurly, I agree that West Coast is very expensive and not as reputable which is why i am trying to avoid it as much as i can. Im also a single mom and that kind of debt would be detrimental for my son and I . I havent applied to any schools yet because im still finishing up Micro right now and will be ready to apply in the fall. I will look into El Camino and yes definately applying to Harbor and LASW as well. I took Chemestry already as well so im hoping that helps me during the PAX exam. Thank you for those study tips , really appreciated.

This is all very true does anyone happen to know when they will tell us if we are accepted or not?

Does anyone know if calculators are allowed during the exam?

they are allowed! basic ones

Has anyone called or know when they are going to pick the RN applicants?

I haven't called but I am assuming it has to be during or at the end of this week because spring break starts April 8th and no one will be in the office that week. According to last year's Fall cohort, they found out April 6, which was a Friday. So mayne emails will be sent out on the 5th? Hoping we all make it in!!

Thank you!! I’m getting nervous haha and didn’t have any updates yet. I hope we all get in too!! Let’s keep praying

Nurseintheemaking Thank you ! Good luck to everyone! I hope everyone gets in !
