Santa Monica College Fall 2019 ADN Program

Hello everyone,

I saw that there has not been a thread created for the Fall 2019 ADN SMC cycle. I got the invitation email to take the NLN PAX test and my scheduled test date is March 29th. Does anyone have some study tips or advice on the NLN PAX? Also, are there any other nursing programs you have applied to? I am really eager to get into a nursing program this round and am hoping for some tips. My TEAS score was not that strong and I really do not want to go to West Coast University and pay 180K. Please share experiences and any updates. I wish everyone the best of luck, I know how stressful this whole process is.

I also am dreading having to face West Coast! I applied to over 10 schools, but I got a 78.8 on my TEAS and my GPA is 3.6 so I am uncertain about my competitiveness. I’m also annoyed by this waiting game. I’m in my mid 30s and don’t have time to waste and I won’t be able to afford West Coast.

Hi everyone , I am not applying for the fall but for the spring but hope that you don't mind if I follow this thread. I wanted to know where everyone ranked as far as points ? I wanted to see if I should even bother applying because my gpa is not competitive enough. I don't want to go to West Coast either but I think that will be my last resort. Thanks everyone!

@empowerandbelieve I believe the counselor estimated my points to be 59, but I haven’t taken their entrance test yet. I take it Thursday morning. I’m not going to study for it. If I don’t do well on it then oh well. I studied a lot for the TEAS and still only got a 78.8% ..I’m drained. I applied to over ten schools so I’m hoping to get into at least 1 but everyone seems to have 4.0 with 80s/90s on their TEAS. I’m officially on the 2 year wait list for LATTC but I’m in my mid 30s and don’t have time to wait that long.

@2bNurseKevorkian I can completely relate, I am also in my mid 30's and a single mom and honestly I have all B's in my sciences so I'm not sure that I will get in anywhere but I will at least try. I haven't taken the teas yet so that is another thing on my to do list. I know what you mean about the wait , and completely understand this is one reason why I have consider West Coast University but the debt is just too much, that I don't think I can do it. I hope we get in somewhere , hang tight our time will come.

I took the NLN PAX exam this morning. The science part was all chemistry; nothing else from what I can remember. We don’t find out our scores for a bit, but I definitely failed bahaha...good luck to everyone!! The TEAS was easier than this test in my opinion.

Anybody else have input on this test?

If their entrance exam is tvOS chemistry-based then maybe I don’t want to pursue their nursing school anyway. My goodness those were random chemistry questions and that is my weakest area.

Hey girl I’m sorry keep your head up! They said they throw out a lot of questions. Was there a lot of physics on there as well

it seems like the science is mostly all chemistry and physics

What the hell. Whelp guys I take it tomorrow morning. Wish me luck hahaha I might die from the stress! All we can do is try our best. Everyone works hard and everyone is deserving. This is a very stressful process. These aptitude tests do not define you or measure how smart you are if you can be a good nurse or even make it into nursing school. One of the keys to success is GRIT, keep moving forward. Don’t stop trying and you will get into a program. If you are like me you are getting rejection letters, don’t let it keep you down. It will make you sad but just remember you aren’t alone and this isn’t for you. All you need is one acceptance. We will all become nurses one day no matter what route we take. It’s okay girl you did your best and the future is unclear you still have a shot at getting in. Now relax this weekend, take a shot or a massage because you’re done with stressing over the test!!! Congrats! ?

2bNurseKevorkian Im sorry to hear that but if its not Santa Monica hopefully its another program. We have to get in somewhere . Was the math hard? my weakness is math, if you didnt pass i probably dont have much of a chance . Oh well.
