Santa Fe College ASN Class of 2013

Published

Since we are no longer "hopeful applicants" it makes sense to have new thread for those of us starting classes in August. We can use this as a place to get/share info on the program, express our excitement about finally being bona fide nursing students, or just get to know each other.

A big :ancong!: to everyone who made it in! We all worked so hard to get here. I look forward to meeting all or some of you as we begin what I'm sure will be two very crazy years. :D

Thank you Gatormommy and K-Ray..I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having these issues. It just seems like so much and it's very overwhelming..and trying to work and go around work schedule is very difficult..thankfully they understand to an extent and so far it hasn't been an issue getting off. The hard part for me is that I live in Palatka, so anything that I need to get done in Gainesville, I gotta try and plan around everything. Just like I go and do fingerprinting on the 6th and I want to try and have everything done by then so that I can just drop my papers off while I am there; howerver, I don't think that it's going to happen. And K-Ray yeah I am going to the doctor sometime next week and I"m gonna have to ask them about the shots..but I think as long as you are starting on doing it then it should be fine..or at least I hope that it is fine.

Phew! That makes me feel alot better. Gatormommy, you're right. The 2010 handbook says for Hepatitis B you have to have the first 2 of the 3 of the series done by the time we start clinicals. And the rest of the immunizations have to be complete by the first day of class.

Anyone know a previous graduate or current student in the program? I would really like some idea of the schedule. I know it says M-F 8 to 4, but I've heard that's not really our schedule.

My really good friend just graduated and said it's almost never 8-4. She said they usually went 9-3, sometimes only until noon. And then some days you may stay later because of labs. She also said they sometimes give you a day off.

Thanks! That makes me feel less stressed about time :D

This is copied from our 'Welcome Letter.' It sounds like our vaccines need to be done before 7/18. I think this letter supercedes the handbook especially since it's not the current one. That's why I called about Hep B because there was no way to complete the series in time.

You MUST provide SF College Nursing programs with the following documents - incomplete forms may jeopardize your entry in the programs: (once these forms are collected, they are not available for return or copies.)

Prior to July 18, 2011, you will need to have completed and submitted to Mrs. Knott, W-201:

Completed, original signature, health form (please be sure to discuss with your healthcare practitioner, the rigors of nursing and your health status).

All immunizations and/or titers as required

Please note a flu immunization will be required in the fall at the student's expense

You may not enter the Nursing Programs with medical limitations or restrictions (if you have a question, please contact me ASAP- after June 22, 2011, please call Nursing Program Director at 395-5731).

"American Heart Association Health Care Provider" certification (instructor lead course only; online not accepted) that is current through May 2013.

I would definately call and find out though. I would hate for any of us to loose our spots because of vaccination confusion.:uhoh3:

Hey, they posted the fees for this semester. You can find them on esantafe, just view your schedule and it will show that you're registered for NUR1020C. Just click on the course info and it will list it.

(In State) $1,086.38

(Out of State) $3,286.78

Thanks UFgrad09!

So I just called the Health Sciences office and they said by July 18th we only need to have started the vaccinations series.

Hope this helps clear up confusion!

I went in yesterday to hand in my letter saying I accept their invitation into the program. The secretary looked at me and said "um yeah, I'm sorry but there were so many people who wanted to get in and it was a first come first serve basis soooo you lost your spot. sorry."

As soon as the tears started to well up in my eyes she said "I'm only kidding! Congratulations!!!"

Like those people haven't put us on enough of an emotional roller coaster these past few weeks... I swear I think I'm developing an ulcer lol.

ANYWAY,

I also made my appointment for fingerprinting on the 7th at 2pm so if anyone else is going on that day, I'll see you there.

Lastly,

Did everyone's class registration show up after they turned their form in? I keep looking and I'm not registered for my nursing classes still. I already took the co-reqs. so I don't need to be registered for those but I don't have anything showing up at all.

Ok, I should have looked at my schedule again this morning before posting here because I am in fact registered now.... so disregard that last post :)

Hey everyone !

Fellow classmate here :)

Can't wait to start classes in August, although getting everything together is so nerve racking.

I read where someone had posted about classes not usually being 8-4.? Does anyone else really know any more information on that? I will be driving 54 miles one way everyday, so I was just looking for some more information :)

I have been reading this since it started and just now decided to register! Great way to communicate before school actually starts!

Hi krw1920 and congrats!!

I thought this was an awesome idea too. I've tried to communicate with nursing students who got in last year to no avail. I guess you get too busy for questions. The question I've asked is the same as yours, what is the schedule like.

It would be nice to know ahead of time. I've got one child in school and one will be in daycare. So, I'm trying to get my back up plans in order just in case one or both of the kids get sick. If your kids get sick in daycare they can't come back for 24 hours, that's a little rough when you're parents live out of state and you're in nursing school from 8-4 M-F.

I wish they would release a schedule of holidays as well. I would like to know if they're the same holidays as my kids. The handbook says that the nursing calendar is different from the general education calendar.
