Since we are no longer "hopeful applicants" it makes sense to have new thread for those of us starting classes in August. We can use this as a place to get/share info on the program, express our excitement about finally being bona fide nursing students, or just get to know each other.
A big :ancong!: to everyone who made it in! We all worked so hard to get here. I look forward to meeting all or some of you as we begin what I'm sure will be two very crazy years.
Hey everyone! Big Congrats to all!Does anyone know where we print the physical form from? I don't see a link for one under the RN section but there is a link for one under the LPN section. Would we use that one?
Have you looked at the site recently? The same thing happened to me. I got my letter on Tues. and immediately went to the site and there were only 2 links, now there are quite a few more links.
Hi classmates!!
I haven't really been on this site for a few days but now that I am finally back in Gainesville, I am ready to get everything done. I think it is really starting to sink in that we're starting NURSING SCHOOL in 2 months... I am so excited!!!!!!
Now down to business:
Kimberly made a comment about our laptops - I have a mac and my plan was just installing windows on it. I hope that will work for their requirements because this computer is pretty new and there is no way I'd be able to go out and buy a new one.
Tara- Where did you pick up your scrubs? Is there something about uniforms on any of our papers? Also I read the comment you made about preliminary studying... I don't think I am going to study but I may start shopping around for our books. I was thinking about ordering them from Amazon.
*** Cool fact about Amazon- Students can sign up to be Amazon Prime members and receive FREE shipping.... all you need to do is sign up with a school email address (like a one with a .edu). I just found this out a few weeks ago and was so excited about it, so I figured I'd pass it along.
Hope everyone is staying cool in this relentless heat!!

Emily,
All info regarding uniforms/dress codes is in the student handbook online. The only thing it says about scrubs is that pants and tops must be royal blue and free of logos and brand labels, specifically mentioning Gator and "TV show" logos. I don't understand the no labels rule since everything I tried on had some sort of identifying label on them. I got my scrubs at the uniform store in the Creekside Mall (where Calico Jacks is). They give a 15% discount to students. Being the rebel that I am, I bought the Grey's Anatomy brand since they were the most comfortable and flattering. Seriously, they felt like pajamas. The labels are tiny and attached by just a few stitches so I plan on removing them. There is another store in the Oaks Mall Plaza that gives a 10% student discount. I'd like to get a few sets of scrubs so I will check them out next time I go uniform shopping.
LittleBirdie, if you don't mind, could you post a link to the student handbook you mentioned? I dug through the SFC site but could only find a 2010 version.
Also, does anyone know if we have to be CPR certified by July 18th or if we just need to be before the program starts in August?
And finally, is the physical/health form (the two page document with the immunization chart) the only physical we have to undergo, or do we need to undergo an actual physical?
Thanks!
akwak33- one of the forms i printed out states that we need proof of cpr prior to 7/18. I think that the two page health form is all we need. I might call and ask, but I've already made my quota of questions, for the week, to the health science office.
I have a fingerprint appt on 6/28 @ 11:00 is anyone else going at that time? If you are I'll be the one there with the 'family circus.'
I've been shopping around for the big text book package we have to purchase and on amazon I found the package minus the study guide/checklist, for $99. I found a pretty good used copy of the study guide checklist for $16. That's a lot better than $180. I also found an i-clicker, used, for $15 on amazon.
Everyone check your schedules!! I've been registered for class!

I'm going by what's in the 2010 version. The dress code portion is word-for-word the same in both the 2009 and 2010 handbooks. Unless they decide to change colors on us I can't imagine that anything will change much, if at all, from last year. I keep checking to see if they've posted the 2011 version but they haven't yet.
Hey guys! I have been following this for a while, but was waiting around to create a username an all; however, since I will be joining all of y'all in the fall I figured this was a great way to start meeting my future classmates and share some of my frustrations as well! I just wanna know if there is anyone else out there stressing out like me?! I just feel like there is so much to get done within a short amount of time! Def not complaining, so grateful for this awesome opportunity, but I am so stressed already and we have yet to begin! I am so excited though and can't wait to meet you all!!!! :)
Hi Kortney and Congrats!!!!!
I'm stressed as well, I think we all are. I feel that 5 wks to get all this stuff done is very stressful. I guess there's a reason though, just think if you were one of the alternates, you'd need time to get everything done too. It looks like 7/18 is the halfway point.
I find that making lists, simplfy everything for me; I love to check off stuff that I've completed :).
My Aflac commercial plug: I have major medical, so for all these little things I have to pay cash. So it has been a challenge to call around for the best prices for physicals, blood work, and vaccinations; and fit that around swim lessons and baseball for my kids. Taking my circus with me everywhere is also a little hard but doable:p.
This is my first summer with my son, he's always been in daycare, but this year he's out for the summer. I didn't think I was getting into the program this year so I thought it would be fun to spend the summer with him and not put him a summer camp.
Sorry so long-winded but I'm right there with you on the stress level:D.

I am taking the CPR class this week. I'm leaving on the 29th for almost two weeks so I want to get as much done as possible before I leave. I even bought a pair of royal blue scrubs on Friday....because I'm a huge dork and super excited.
Is anyone thinking about doing some preliminary studying over the summer? I've seen many threads on here about students buying dosage calculation books and even NCLEX review books before their first semester even starts. I dunno about that...I kinda just want to relax and enjoy the summer.
