San Marcos

If you like hot humid weather, Texas is the right place to be! :)

We lived there a couple of years and I couldn't wait to leave because I'm a Fall and Winter Baby. Couldn't stand the heat and humidity.

Since you've wanted to visit Texas for a long time, why not give it a try. You'll at least have fulfilled that wish for yourself, especially if you are looking for a place to call "home" following your divorce. I've been down the divorce path myself years ago, and moved to Hawaii to heal. Now THAT was the best move I ever made!

I went to school in San Marcos...LOVED IT!!!! Tubing down the Guadalupe, mountain biking in the hills, laying out by the river that went through campus....I enjoyed every minute I was there. I now live in an area that doesn't get thunderstorms and I sure do miss them!

Can't say as I love hot and humid weather, but I need the journey. Thinking of starting in Nashville for a couple days, heading for San Marcos for a while, then onto the desert then my ultimate destiny Southern Oregon Coastline. The defining and pivotal point is my Hospice job sucks- too much cilty driving, not the territory I was promised, pts too numerous and too far spread out and be at the office at the same time to do the paperwork-no computers. I feel I am putting my life in jeopardy on the highway with a cell phone and pager and the stress-geesh- I would rather tend bar in Montana or Alaska than work this job. Nice to hear from you both and get reaquainted with ya cheerfuldoer! Hospice has also taught me that I must be happy with what I am doing, life is just too short. I just don't do stress that well. Some people thrive on it, but it ain't me babe!

If you were in San Marcos this month, you'd be having a great time at Octoberfest....it is one heck of a bash !! Lotsa German and Chezk (?) descendents in the area...great german restaurants. And tubing, and antiquing, and Southwest Texas University, !/2 way between Austin and San Antone. And the Schlitterbahn, the biggest swimming place in Texas, extremely popular, and............ great natural scenery and close to a couple of fantastic natural springs swimming pools - - Hamilton and can't recall the name of the other one...near Hamilton.....

and lots of FUN ! sAN mARCOS IS /SHOULD BE named the ffun city of the state....no one is ever depressed or sad there...

San MArcos is a beautiful town. I work there. (not as a nurse, still going to school) The town has everything you could want,hospital, nursing homes, Austin is just right up the road. The thing that drives me crazy.... the traffic is TERRIBLE when the college kids are back from break.

Found out today that the sales agreement for the house I am buying can not be backed out of- long story, so I am stuck here. Have to look for a new job though cuz I will be committed if I stay where I am. May be able to fix this house up some and sell it, and take off to San Marcos next year!

Well, that is awful !! A visit to an attorneys office usually "fixes" those kinda problems. Usually , if you find something wrong with the house that they did not reveal, it will cancel any kind of sales agreement.

If you don't really want it, don't assume that what they are telling you is true, go talk to a real estate attorney.....

In the meantime, San Marcos will still be there.

Right now I feel so shell shocked by my Hospice job and my divorce that I can't even think of getting out of it. I will stick around for a year or so and fix up this house- it is like a big old dog house on a foundation- a tiny little house that needs alot of work. I will find another job and learn how to lay ceramic tile. Then in a year or so, put it on the market and move on. I just felt that I was ready now, but life has a funny way of putting down roots. That's a shame you can't make it to San Marcos. I live just outside San Antonio but went to school in San Marcos (SWT!).

Since you don't speak English, your services would be of use in Texas because of the large population of Spanish speaking people. I'm not sure how much of a need there is for fluent Spanish speakers in San Marcos but it is close to Seguin which would increase the need. The greatest need is closer down to the border and in the valley. Laredo, Uvalde, Brownsville and the surrounding areas. South Padre Island is very close to the border as well and you have access to the beach all year long.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Why did you choose San Marcos? It's a great town but it's small and your job options would more than likely be out of town, say Austin, Seguin, New Braunfels or even San Antonio. Just curious...

Maybe once you sell your house or the year is up, you can come and check Texas out for yourself. Yes, we get humid but in no way are we as humid as Florida or Louisianna. We are a great state. You'd like it here.
