San Joaquin Valley College (SJVC) - RN program Cohort August 2024

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone, I summited my application last month (May 2024) for the next cohort that will take place in August. My GPA is 3.5 and my TEAS is 66% (Not high enough) . I'm really nervous and not sure if these scores are strong enough to get in. Share your thoughts.

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know there is not an essay this time around. I was told they will meet to discuss candidates on the 26th. Then they will start notifying those chosen starting on the 29th-31st. Good luck 🍀

Hello, so did you interview today? And there was no essay this time? I am scheduled to interview on the 18th. How many interview questions did you have if you don't mind me asking.

Yeah I had my interview already. No essay required. They asked me approximately 15 different questions.

Thank you for replying back, OK just wanted to clarify because on my email it did state to arrive 30 minutes early for the essay part. Wow 15 questions 😕  do you remember what they were? I just interviewed at Gurnick it was different only 5 questions they were simple the basic Why you want to be a nurse, your strengths and weaknesses, another was similiar to if you are struggling in a course what would you do.

They sent me an email the day before telling me to arrive 15-20 mins early. They did not ask why you want to be a nurse. I feel as though the questions they asked were to assess if you would actually make a good nurse/nursing student. Strengths and weaknesses, how you handle different work situations, strategies for success in school

Oh OK,  thank you so much for the information. I really appreciate it! Good luck to everyone hope we all get a seat 🙂

No problem. I just received an email stating that those accepted into the program should receive a call at the beginning of August. Hella vague.

OMG yes that's true. Would be nice if we found out by end of this month. By any chance did you ask how many applicants there was this time around?

I tried asking she said she couldn't tell me. In one of the initial emails she sent me it said they would only interview the top 100 applicants, but who knows how accurate that is. Do you mind sharing your stats like GPA and TEAS score? I want to try to get a better idea of my chances. I have 3.14 cumulative GPA for the prerequisites and 88% TEAS. I have a few degrees as well but I'm not sure if they care about that.

Hello, true I wounder if there is actually more than 100 applicants... My GPA is not great 3.0 and my TEAS 88%. I do have some degrees as well but I feel like they didn't take that into consideration:(  I'm nervous I feel since I'm not a CNA or LVN I don't have that patient care experience I won't know how to answer the questions or answer with correct wording..

Our stats are similar. I'm hoping my TEAS score balances out my GPA for their points system. I don't have any patient care experience either. I'm just hoping the fact that I will be commuting from out of town doesn't affect their decision. Just be yourself during your interview. Keep in mind that as you are responding they take notes and rate your answer.

I don't believe commuting should affect the decision, I'm sure there are people including myself that are from out of town. Who sat on the panel to interview you? Where they instructors from SJVC?
