Hi friends, my name is John. I'm new here and wanted to start a thread for those applying for the Fall 2014 admission at SJDC. I've read similar threads about past classes and found them interesting and informative.
I just finished up Physiology (still nervously waiting for my grade) and I'll be taking the TEAS at Modesto JC on 12/20. After that I'll be putting together my application!
I just noticed on Delta's ADN site that the TEAS will be offered at the Stockton campus the second week of January. Still no information on when the actual application period is going to be.
Anybody else want to share any thoughts, concerns, rumors, or advice?
Ch76- It says the same thing on my background check. It just says completed for background and negative for the drug screening. I would assume that's passing. I hope they email us directions on how to upload our immunizations. I didn't see any directions as well. Are we suppose to upload our background/drug results as well?
MirnaMarlene- Thanks! I was initially planning to order from allhearts.com. Medisave definitely have better deals. I wonder what the restriction is when it comes to color. I really want a bright colored stethoscope. :)
Thanks ladies! I uploaded my results for the background check and drug screening and it changed my status to met for those certification requirements. I saved the results to my computer and then attached the file. I uploaddd them since they are both listed under our immun/certs profile. I also uploaded my CPR card but the status didn't change to met like the other two. I'm assuming it won't since the card is an ongoing requirement that we have to carry on us and show to our instructors...oh and when I emailed the HS lady she told me that I could upload what I had regarding my immunizations now and to call her and she will take a look at them and let me know if that's all that's needed. I think even if we upload stuff now and it's not correct, then they will let us know. I think that as long as everything is uploaded correctly by July 7th then we are good. She told me not to stress lol maybe should could tell I over think everything lol...by the way I'm excited to meet you all once school starts.. Are any of you planning on taking the optional study/guidance course??
Thanks for the info! I can't help but feel stress as well. I finally figured out how to upload my documents on evalue but when I tried adding the results for my background and drug screening, it kept popping up that I must select a requirement option? Is anyone having this issue or am I not uploading it correctly? I clicked on my profile and under immunization/cert. I tried to upload my background pdf under the background column and drug screening under the drug screening column. I don't understand why I can't add my document.
I'm thinking about taking the study/guidance course. I think it'll be good to get a feel of what nursing school is like especially when I have no idea what to expect.
Thank you ch76 ! I haven't tried uploading anything, I am doing that on Monday after I get my CPR card...
I also wanted to take that course but everyone says that it adds more work and that its a waste of time but I'm still thinking about it. I am so scared and have no idea what to expect.. I want all the help I can get ! But then again we are going to be overwhelmed and I don't want to add more homework to all the reading we will be doing.
I am excited to meet everyone too!
yerlo09 - When you are trying to add the requirement, are you putting in the date it was completed? I first added the date, selected my file from the browse option, and then once I saw my file name listed I hit the add button on the right hand side. I never had anything pop up stating to select a requirement option.
mirnamarlene - If you don't mind me asking what type of stethoscope did you purchase? I know we are just required to have one that has a bell and diaphragm but I saw that there were different types.
In regards to the study/guidance course, I don't think I'm going to sign up for it. I think it would probably help some with tips and stuff like that, but I would rather have more time to study and read the books. I think we'll have plenty of time to meet our classmates in the actual classes and can form groups to share thoughts on ways that work, etc. I'm still somewhat debating, but I think I'm leaning more towards no.
Oh and what day are you guys planning on going to Delta for the dove uniform fitting? I already requested to be off work in the pm on June 23rd, so I'll be at that fitting session :)
ch76 I purchased the Littmann Classic II SE. It was recommended by a friend, she says she loved it and she could hear perfectly from it. Her instructor recommends this one as well and says it is the best stethoscope for a nursing student. It is a bit pricey but according to the reviews you get your moneys worth. I have also heard that there are inexpensive ones by prestige that work fine too. I wanted to play it safe so I chose the Littmann.
I agree we will get time to form study groups, we could exchange contact information during the dove fitting and maybe get better acquainted since we will be so busy once school starts plus it will be a big change for all of us. Do you plan on purchasing books early to get ahead on the reading? I am thinking of buying the NURSADN 001 books next month
I am not sure what day I will be going to get fitted I will most likely go on the 23rd
Ch76- Yes, I put the date. I did everything that you listed and it still won't let me add. I'm assuming it wants me to choose one of the option from the requirement box but I'm not authorized to do that. Frustrating. Lol. I went ahead and emailed the health science department. Yeah, I'm still kinda on the fence about the study course. Anyone planning on creating a group on fb? I heard that a lot of students benefited from it. I was looking at the Littman Classic II SE as well but a little out of my spending budget.
But, I did settle for the Littman Lightweight for $45. I was looking at the Prestige ones as well and reviews were better for the Littman brand.
So, I was just informed that I got accepted in Sierra College's ADN program. I had my heart set on Delta as I've familiar with Delta, have family here, and know where all the hospitals are located. However, Sierra WAS my first choice since they're teaming up with CSU Sacramento. This means nursing students at Sierra have the opportunity to work on their bsn as the same time. After the associates, it will only take one semester to get one's bachelor's. However, this selection is based on lottery only... I'm debating if I should take that chance and go to Sierra or stay here at Delta... I would love my fellow nursing student's input.
I think that either choice is a good one. If you were thinking of getting your BSN then definitely go to sierras RN program since instead of going for an additional 2 years you would only add 1 semester. If you are really family oriented (like I am) and if change scares you then go to delta :) Plus also look at the NCLEX passing rate for sierra. I think it is awesome that you have more than one choice congratulations.. Let us know what school you choose! I was (still am) definitely looking forward to meeting you though!

You can get them anywhere online. I just ordered my stethoscope this morning from Medisave.net I got it from this website as opposed to allheart.com because the prices where a little cheaper(not by alot my stethoscope was still expensive) and because Medisave gives you free laser engraving if that is something you want. allheart.com has a $10 charge for that.
I am sure there are many other sites but I thought Medisave was the best. They had cheap disposable penlights there too ranging from1-17 dollars I think.
Hope this helps and that you find what you are looking for :)
