ADN- When to apply?
Every school has different deadlines. Best to search the adn programs offered in california. And that's not entirely true about waitlist. You increase your chances by applying to more than one college. I applied to 6 adn programs and got in 2 on my first try. 5 were based on lottery and 1 on point system.

Get in ADN program on first try?
It's possible! My advice- APPLY EVERYWHERE! If you're passionate about nursing, don't let location scare you. Majority of adn programs are lottery but there are a few that are based on a point system. I am in the Sacramento area and applied to CSU Sacramento for the bsn program. My mistake was applying to just one school. Of course, I wounded on the wait list and was devastated. Couldn't apply to other bsn programs because I missed the deadline and it would take approximately a little longer than I hoped. However, I jumped right back onto my feet and the following semester, applied to 6 other ADN programs. 5 based on lottery and 1 on a point system. Wounded up getting accepted to 2 colleges, one being the lottery and the other point college.

Sierra college nursing fall 2014
Thanks! I'm leaning more towards Sierra at this point. Sierra was initially my first choice as well due to the reason that CSU Sacramento is teaming with them in giving this upcoming nursing students the opportunity to work on their bsn at the same time while working on their adn. Assuming that I read the information correctly, the adn bridge to bsn program is based on lottery so only a handful of nursing students will be given the opportunity to work on their bsn. Instead of the traditional adn to bsn and taking an additional 1 1/2 years to complete one's bsn, it'll only taking sierra's nursing students (if selected) one semester after completing their adn as they'll be taking sac state's nursing courses over the summer and concurrently during the 4th semester with adn courses. Yes, when they sent me my acceptance letter through the email that I listed on my application, I was given the mandatory orientation and a deadline to accept or decline my spot. The orientation is on Monday June 9 from 8 am to 4 pm. And then the deadline to accept or decline just passed on May 9. I don't know how many applied as they didn't provide any info. Aside from that one email, they just said they'll email me other requirements that I have to complete before the orientation soon.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I appreciate it. I know none of you are obligated to reply to me so the fact that you take time out of your busy schedule to reply to me means a lot. I am a student at Sac State, transferred from Delta. I have 3/4 , if not more of my requirements fulfilled already. I applied to Sac State’s bsn program for spring 2014 and wounded up on the waitlist. Ultimately, my goal is to get my bachelors. I know that after my associates, I want to go back and get my bachelors. I currently do not have any children, not married, and not working so I know that if I get this opportunity at Sierra, I know I can do devote all my time into it. I did just that. I looked up the NCLEX for both sierra and delta. Every year for Sierra, there’s about 50-70 students who take the NCLEX and have a passing rate of 94%-100%. Delta have about 150 + students and it’s about 88-93% so it’s not much help considering the difference of students (in my opinion). I know I’m making this more complicated than it really is, but I really don’t want to regret my decision. I know I will enjoy Delta to the fullest, as well as clinicals. I was looking forward to meeting all of you as well. Everyone is so friendly and encouraging here at Delta. Whereas, I do not have any information at Sierra and will definitely be more nervous starting there. And to be honest, I don’t know how I would feel about clinical and being in the program at Sierra. All I know is that I will have to make a decision soon.

San Joaquin Delta College ADN Fall 2014
So, I was just informed that I got accepted in Sierra College's ADN program. I had my heart set on Delta as I've familiar with Delta, have family here, and know where all the hospitals are located. However, Sierra WAS my first choice since they're teaming up with CSU Sacramento. This means nursing students at Sierra have the opportunity to work on their bsn as the same time. After the associates, it will only take one semester to get one's bachelor's. However, this selection is based on lottery only... I'm debating if I should take that chance and go to Sierra or stay here at Delta... I would love my fellow nursing student's input.

Ch76- Yes, I put the date. I did everything that you listed and it still won't let me add. I'm assuming it wants me to choose one of the option from the requirement box but I'm not authorized to do that. Frustrating. Lol. I went ahead and emailed the health science department. Yeah, I'm still kinda on the fence about the study course. Anyone planning on creating a group on fb? I heard that a lot of students benefited from it. I was looking at the Littman Classic II SE as well but a little out of my spending budget. But, I did settle for the Littman Lightweight for $45. I was looking at the Prestige ones as well and reviews were better for the Littman brand.

Thanks for the info! I can't help but feel stress as well. I finally figured out how to upload my documents on evalue but when I tried adding the results for my background and drug screening, it kept popping up that I must select a requirement option? Is anyone having this issue or am I not uploading it correctly? I clicked on my profile and under immunization/cert. I tried to upload my background pdf under the background column and drug screening under the drug screening column. I don't understand why I can't add my document. I'm thinking about taking the study/guidance course. I think it'll be good to get a feel of what nursing school is like especially when I have no idea what to expect.

Ch76- It says the same thing on my background check. It just says completed for background and negative for the drug screening. I would assume that's passing. I hope they email us directions on how to upload our immunizations. I didn't see any directions as well. Are we suppose to upload our background/drug results as well? MirnaMarlene- Thanks! I was initially planning to order from allhearts.com. Medisave definitely have better deals. I wonder what the restriction is when it comes to color. I really want a bright colored stethoscope. :)

Okay, so I emailed ------------- about the immunizations and this is what she wrote: Hep B and C screening needs to be no more than 60 days before if going to Dameron. Since we don't know what location you will get, please don't do your Hep C titer until after June 19th. If you are in process of your Hep B vaccines, make sure to upload the Hep B Waiver form along with your vaccines done to date. Yes, the two step needs to be within 60 day of starting school unless you already have a current TB then just make sure the second one is within the 60 days. I just wished they clarified it on the packet! so, these are the only ones that must be done 60 days prior to clinical. I would suggest doing the mmr with the tb. hope that helps!

Anyone know where we should get our accessories from- specifically the stethoscope and pen light?

San Joaquin Delta College ADN Fall 2014
Actually, It doesn't state the 2nd mmr being 60 days from clinical but I would get it the same time I get the 2nd tb (being no more than 60 days from clincal) SINCE for the skin test to be valid, it has to be placed the same day or at least 30 days of a LIVE VIRUS VACCINE.

San Joaquin Delta College ADN Fall 2014
We're actually required to take two tb (if we haven't had one administered within the past 12 months of the first day of clinical and the 2nd one 60 days within clinical) and two mmr (with 28 days between each and the 2nd one being 60 days within the first day of clinical). As for the varicella and hep c, we need titers done to show if we have antibodies to it. Tdap can be done right now. As for the Hep B, on page 23 of our packets in notes, it says that hep b requires 3 vaccinations, with intervals at 0, 30, and 240 days (0,1, and 6 months). It'd be impossible to have all 3 shots done when clinical is here which is why they have the waiver form. It just requires one to be done prior to clinical and pick up according to the months. A tb has to be placed on the same day as the mmr for it to be considered valid. So I would plan to get the the mmr and tb at the same time. If for any reason I am wrong, please anyone correct me. But this is what I got from reading the packet.
