San jacinto college adn fall 2010

Published

Hi everyone. Im wondering if any of you are planning on applying to San Jac ADN program or are in the program? Also, when applying will you be using option A, B or both? Lets talk about it here. :redbeathe

Congrats to you guys...See ya'l at the CPR class!!! They told me it was till noonish!!! :D

I emailed a woman asking what form of payment is taken for the purchase of uniforms and lab supplies at orientation. She said cash or check only as she does not think a credit card machine will be available. Just wanted to give everyone the FYI.

I just received a letter of acceptance at 9:35A.M. This is so cool I thought i wasn't going to get accepted. Ill see ya'll in orientation! Thank God for being so kind, and graceful!

hey everyone....there are a lot of books to buy for the 1st semester but you use them the whole program. I'm going to lay it out for you to save you some money that I wish I had saved. Theres going to be a list of books you will have to buy and Im going to tell you which ones you need the 1st 8 weeks and which ones you need the second 8 weeks. ( each semester is split into 8 weeks).

1st 8 Weeks:

Health Assessment book with workbook ( you can buy used but you need your own workbook and they come as a package in the bookstore)

Fundamentals of nursing: you cannot buy this used because you need my nursing lab code and the used ones usually have the code already registered and then you have to pay an additional 75 to buy the code.

Math for Meds Book and Medical Terminology book.

Also the APA book....never used it, its to write papers in APA stype but they tell you how to do it in orientation the 1st day of class and then you can google it so its a waste of money to me.

2nd 8 weeks:

All of the clincial book: Diagnostic lab handbook, drug book, nursing diagnosis handbook. They have a medical dictionary listed but I NEVER used it not even once. If you dont know a test just google it. This book is big and useless to me. It comes in a package with the Med Term book so try and order the med term book on its own. Its up to you though what u want to buy.

I hope that helps. They may tell you that you need all of these books the 1st 8 weeks but you really dont. If you want to make clinical easy on yourself save the money for 2nd 8 weeks and go and buy your Med Surg book with the 2nd 8 weeks books cuz you will definately need that book for your care plans.

The lab pack: you can buy your own stethoscop and pen light but thats it you have to buy everything else from them. San Jac has two uniforms one for school and one for clinical and they are strict on that. Even if you do not buy the stethoscop from them you are still looking at well over 300 dollars on the 1st day of orientation. The most expensive part of the program is the books but after the 1st semester you kind of learn what to buy and what not to buy and then you already have all the books you need. Hope I answered all of your questions.

When you say "Health Assessment book with workbook" are you talking about the Medical-Surgical Nursing & the Virtual Clinical Excursions for Medical Surgical Nursing? I just looked up the list on the SanJac bookstore website and I didn't see a Health Assessment book listed. Thanks!!!

Amazing how long the wait was to get the acceptance letters, and now we're scrambling to finish CPR, physicals, immunizations etc. lol

I managed to get an earlier doctors appt. in July for a physical, otherwise I had to wait until August 9th.

Anyway, I hope they can get a working credit/debit machine for Orientation, and let everyone know before hand if it's just cash or check.

mostly i'm just excited to be in!! haha but still am amazed at all the stuff i still need to do. did they email the physical forms? i looked on blackboard and didnt see anything

Yes, they emailed the physical forms.

Anyone doing the cpr class at San Jac on the 23rd?

@kitcait08..

Congrats on getting the acceptance. It was worth the wait.

Looks like most of them have signed up for Laport EMS class..heh! How many of them are close to that place? Is it just from 8-12? coz I saw the 2-5 schedule also. Hope thats not a continuation.

Thanks for all the other info's

NO the medical surgical nursing and clinical excursions isnt until your 2nd semester. Your first semester you will have health assessment in nursing which is a 16 week course. You will have a workbook you have to do and hand it every week. It should be listed on the booklist.

yes! i will see you guys there i'm the real short one lol hard to miss!
