San jacinto college adn fall 2010

Published

Hi everyone. Im wondering if any of you are planning on applying to San Jac ADN program or are in the program? Also, when applying will you be using option A, B or both? Lets talk about it here. :redbeathe

I dont really know why the hybrid program has a big failure rate, but if anything, there are only 20 students being accepted instead of 60, so there will probably be more help available i guess. From what I heard, the hybrid is pretty much self teaching, and the only time you learn in a classroom setting is just for skills, like IV, catheters, etc.

Again, please dont think that I am discouraging anyone to take it. I am just saying that if you have a choice, choose the classroom setting. And to be perfectly honest, I find that I teach myself alot of the material sometimes. I find that I am more disciplined though when I have to attend class. Having said all that, I am taking a hybrid pharmacology class right now, and I gotta say that I am loving it! lol talk about a double standard! Hope this helps a bit.

To alluring squre: No problem. I remember when I was checking these same boards for any news last year, so I know what your going through.

Good luck to all!

LOL! about taking the hybrid...Thanks so much for the info...I feel so much betta!!!! :D

Where is the History & Physical form?

Any input or caution about the physical....

You will find it on BlackBoard...it is not available at this time!!!

Congrats to everyone that got in I know how exciting it is to receive that letter. I'd have to say don't worry about taking hybrid because the whole first semester of nursing school is basic learning and you end up teaching yourself anyway. Most of the teachers put up notes online and just study them, thats what I did. Going to class to me is just for signing the roll sometimes because I don't soak the information in until I study. I took the hybrid pharm, its a lot easier but I can say from experience you will not learn as much as the traditional pharmacology class if its the same class I took. I signed up for Pedi OB hyrbid for next semester and I am not worried about it at all. Once you know how to take the exams and get used to learning the information you pretty much start teaching yourself everything anyway. It just depends on how you learn.

Awesome, thanks so much!!! This is kinda what I figured...all I need is the review notes for the exam & I'm good!!! :lol2:

mkhoaja & PharmLUV, I have a few questions if you've got the time to answer them.

-As far as the shoes go, I have read that they must be all white, but do they have to be a certain kind (i.e. tennis shoe, clog, etc.) ?

-Do we have to buy the steths they'll be selling at orientation? Would you recommend buying a better one? Would a steth name tag be useful?

-Would it be wise to invest in a rolling back pack, or do you leave the majority of books at home and only tote a few back and forth.

-Do the instructors allow you to record them?

Thanks so much! :D I just want to go buy everything right now I am so excited! I have made myself a list of items I'd like to get before school starts. To all of my future classmates, this is a great thread if you haven't checked it out:

Nursing School Must Haves?? - Nursing for Nurses

Lots of advice.

Can anyone please answer a few questions for me? Sorry if its kind of lengthy, but any input would be greatly appreciated... thanks :)

1) Do we just email all information needed by the Aug 23? (Shot records, Photo ID, CPR Varification, Physical inf)

2) When and where do we turn in our immunization history and physical information. Do we just request the doctors office to send titer results to san jac nursing department?

3) Does anyone know what we will be doing at Orientation since it is 8hrs a day for 2 days? Is there anykind of interview I should prepare for? Anything i need to bring?

4) How long do you have to wait to get your titers done after recieving all your shots? Which shots do you have to return for assuming you have not had any of them.

jjvdb13:

1 & 2) i would turn it into the nursing office in lieu of email as not to chance it getting lost. also, it says on the checklist and email on your acceptance that it must be turned into the nursing office by the august 16.

3) i wouldn't worry about being overly prepared for orientation as everything you need to know will be dictated there. just bring a notebook & a folder so that you can take notes and file all the paperwork that i am sure we will be given.

4) get started on your shots as quickly as possible and if any of the shots are in process you will be okay as long as you can prove it being in process.

also, call the nursing department, if you have questions. they are very helpful.

hope my information helps.

Congratulations to everyone that got into the RN program!:yeah:

Your tennis shoes must be all white, with no mesh. It has to be leather or some sort of solid outer lining. You dont want blood or vomit, etc ,getting into your shoes and soaking your feet.

They sell a stethescope but you dont have to buy it if you have one. however, make sure it is a good quality one if you already have one.

Definitly get a rolling backpack cause you will need it. And for the most part, the instructor let you record them.

Hope this helps.

Hello everyone..

Nice to be reading this board. It helps a lot. Just new here.

Seems like there are a few students who have been accepted to the program for this Fall. Congrats to all.

I had a question to anyone who can answer: Does anyone know how many students will be accepted this Fall- roughly atleast.

What % of students get in at the first shot?

Does the school really consider the option-B at all or is it all in the game?

And do they send all the acceptance emails on just one day only?

Anyone could spare some knowledge would be nice.

Appreciate it

Thanks

I can do all things- I have read that 80 have been accepted for the regular program and 20 for the hybrid; out of around 500 applicants. I figure they do go by Option B as well because I got accepted and used option B only.

Ive also read on this thread that in past years they were sending out acceptances for like a week.

Good luck. (:

Oh boy! finally made the cut. Got the acceptance today about an hour ago. Have to get ready mentally, physically and spiritually ! Thanks to all who kept in touch and see you at the orientation..hopefully we will be able to recognize one another!

congrats alluring_square!! :D I'm so excited for orientation!
