Hi everyone. Im wondering if any of you are planning on applying to San Jac ADN program or are in the program?

Lets talk about it here

I do not think they are giving us a choice.

I feel like I missed a big chunk of something important then : /

In preparation for the flu season, some of the area hospitals have begun to require a yearly seasonal influenza immunization (not the H1N1 at this time). We are anticipating this requirement will quickly be adopted by all our clinical affiliates. The influenza immunization is also recommended by the CDC for all students in schools and colleges to prevent outbreaks.

In light of these developments, it has been determined that all students of San Jacinto College Central Associate Degree Nursing program will now be required to have the seasonal influenza immunization prior to Oct 1, 2009. Documentation must be submitted to the theory faculty prior to that time. Failure to comply with this requirement could result in dismissal from the program, due to the student's inability to meet the clinical objectives.

But it seems we have until the 16th since we don't start clinicals until the 24th.

I read it on the announcement page. Didn't get an email either. At least we don't have to get the swine flu vaccine. I've also heard that the symptoms for the regular flu are worse than those of the swine flu.

Oh okay. Guess I'll start reading more about happy fun SNA stuff then. And I suppose mandatory flu vaccines too, if I must.

I guess my sending a document that is signed by my doctor to the hospitals that details my awesome immunity probably won't suffice. That's disappointing, to say the least : (

Well at least we don't have to get an anthrax vaccine that they give to the military folk.

So my letter says we have to get the flu shot by Oct. 1st. I hope Walgreens is giving them out because my Hep B shot was $70 a pop from my primary MD.

Ouch. That's a lot.

I'm pretty sure my physician has it, and since I've (still) got my parents health stuff, it's only 12 dollars. At least, it had better be. Can't imagine paying 30 dollars to be immunized against something I've never had.

Russel, are you still volunteering at St.John's? I'm asking because here at memorial hermann they encourage all staff and volunteers to get the flu shot and its free!!! I'm not sure if St.John's does the same but you might want to look into that and save money!!

Really now? That's quite interesting. . .I may have to make a trip over to St. John's and see if that's the case there. If not I'm still only out 12 dollars which is okie dokie for me. But free rocks!

No problem, I try to help out when I can....I know people were saying they get sick from the flu shot well I got sick from the FLU Mist...which goes in your nose and its a live virus. Makes you really sleepy for days, throat hurts and body feels weak. Ugh

Bleh, that would suck. I was talking to some people while waiting for the lab to open and they were saying the regular one gets them sick. I think this is why I've avoided that immunization as long as I have. I'm afraid of getting it and then not being able to finish classes.

That scares me to no end. More than 15 chapters on an exam. Way more.
