Anyone applying for the spring semester!!

Chunky Munkey,

Did you find anything out yesterday at the info session as far as how many applicants they are accepting? I have been to an info session already and didn't get any info I didn't already know so I was wondering if you happened to ask that question. :)

went to the info session yesterday. here's what the adn dept. chair said.

  • approximately 300-400 applicants will apply to the program. she couldn't give a definitive number, but she emphasized "approximately."
  • statistics from last semester the average gpa on accepted applicants was between a 3.1-3.2 gpa.
  • according to last semester adn fall 2011 intake, 100 generic and 40 transition(lvn) students were accepted. dept. chair couldn't give a definitive number of how many they're going to accept for spring 2012.
  • all notifications of acceptance and denials will be sent via email, so make sure your email address is correct.
  • all notifications of acceptance and denials will be sent 4 weeks after the deadline, not sooner than 4 weeks.
  • applicant can have 1-2 courses in progress. courses in progress will not count towards the overall scoring rubric. adn dept. can't guess what a student is going to make in the courses in progress so it can't be tallied into the scoring rubric.
  • if applicants have already completed their immunizations, get a titer completed to check for immunity. if not, there is still time to take a new series of immunizations.
  • if an applicant fails a portion of the hesi, he/she can retest only for that portion instead of taking the whole entire test over again. the downside of this is the applicant has to pay full price for the exam regardless of how many portions of the exam they have to take.
  • applicants do not have to take the personality profile portion of the hesi exam. the dept. has scrapped it and doesn't use it in weighing an applicant.
  • as of oct 11, 2011 all seats are filled for the hesi exam at san jacinto. must take the exam off site at a prometric center.

i hope this helps.

Thanks a bunch Chunky Munkey!! I do have a question....about the titer....Is a shot record not sufficient enough from the Doctor?? I have completed all immunizations. I don't want to have to go back and get a titer completed for all shots.

There really is no other way to check for immunity without titers. Me too, I completed all my immunizations. Looks like I am gonna have to get titers completed to check for immunity.

AwwwMan!!!

@Careangel, OH NO!!! I thought for sure you'd get into Lonestar. Don't give up. You got a good fighting chance of getting into San Jac. Hold your head up high and don't give up.

Thanks Chunky Munkey for the info!

Do y'all think I should go ahead and start my shots? I have not started them yet because the application says to wait until you get accepted. But then I hear that it takes months to complete them. What do y'all think??

Thanks Chunky Munkey! I'm hoping that I do get in somewhere! At this point I don't care where.

@Bmw2alt

Get your shots done!!!!! HEP B take 6 months to complete. I know there is an accelerated Hep B shot you can take in 4 weeks, but that sounds sketchy if you ask me. Anyway, I would get them completed asap.

WOW!!! No one is even posting in here.

hopefully, like you said, that means there are fewer applicants this entry date. Do you guys think that they take what school you completed your prereqs at into consideration? I completed the prereqs at Texas A&M but my GPA is really low... i'm sitting at a 2.72. I am hoping that I will somehow get in.

Where did everyone get their titers and shots? Were they expensive? I don't even know where to begin with the shot process and am not looking forward to it!! :bluecry1:

@Bmw2alt, go to your doctor.
