San Francisco State University (SFSU) Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing (ELM) - Fall 2024

Published

Hi! I wanted to start a thread for SFSU ELMSN applicants for fall of 2024. I'm actually a current student who began the program in fall 2023 and wanted to provide a place to answer any questions applicants might have about the program. Our application cycle didn't have any connection to those further along in the program than us when we applied, which made it difficult to find information. So please reach out with any questions, concerns, or to connect with other applicants!

@sarahk09 Do you know if there are folks in your cohort that were waitlisted and then got a spot?

Yes I've mentioned info about this in a previous comment on this thread

Got accepted at 9:00pm for public health concentration. I will be denying my offer as I already got into my first choice. Accepted students have until May 1st to accept offer.

Stats: 3.59 cumulative, 4.00 Pre-req, CNA & Public Health work. A ton of non-clinical volunteer work and awards too. My tips for future applicants is to have a solid idea of what you want to do after getting your nursing degree and making that very clear in your writing.

They truly are holistic with admissions because in my undergrad, I had a ton of Cs and even an F. I was placed on academic probation at one point. I just made sure to explain how I overcame that and really kicked *** in my pre-reqs. Apply anyways! You truly never know. If you are waitlisted/denied, head up! I know it's hard to feel good right now but I promise things work out as they should. It took me three years after my undergrad filled with work, volunteering, and doing well in my pre-reqs to get in!

I wish more people spoke about the admissions process and I hope this inspires others as well! It was really lonely asking for tips and advice because no one seems to come back to talk about it after getting accepted so I'm hoping to pass on the torch and help others in the future! This ends my application cycle. Good luck, all! May we  all be amazing nurses.

Congrats! What program will you be attending instead?

I had emailed SFSU Nursing requesting feedback about my application and this was the response:

Quote

There are 20 spots available in our program and we have received over 470 applications. The average TEAS is 89, average prerequisite GPA is 3.94, and all top 20 admits had health care experience. 15 of our admits also had underserved community experience, and 15 other admits had current certificate/license related to health care experience. All applicants should make sure they submit their current licenses (EMT, LVN, VN, Phlebotomy Tech, etc.) and submit health care experience that explains what they do and if they speak a second language and how it is used in health care experience.

Hope this helps for those that are thinking of applying/reapplying.

did they tell you guys what waitlist number you are?

Last year they gave people waitlist numbers based on their chosen specialty, did they just give you a general number this year?

Thank you for the inf. I'm on waitlist and my number is 12. Not sure when will I hear back from them.  Is anyone on the waitlist got email from school?

I just called to ask and they said that waitlist is for overall admission and not by specialty!

My number on the waitlist is #1. Haven't gotten anymore news since last night's email.
