San Francisco State University (SFSU) Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing (ELM) - Fall 2024

Published

Hi! I wanted to start a thread for SFSU ELMSN applicants for fall of 2024. I'm actually a current student who began the program in fall 2023 and wanted to provide a place to answer any questions applicants might have about the program. Our application cycle didn't have any connection to those further along in the program than us when we applied, which made it difficult to find information. So please reach out with any questions, concerns, or to connect with other applicants!

I haven't heard back yet. I'm so stress OMG😭😭😭. Are you also applied for BSN or MSN? I commented in the wrong forum LOL

I applied for the MSN.

We've come a long way since January! I can't wait to hear back !! Ahh the nerves! Good luck to all

Has anyone heard back regarding admissions? They had told me mid-April, but I haven't heard a thing.

Also what other schools did you guys apply to? Currently I have 2 acceptances, but would prefer SFSU.

I think it's crazy that they really think people can afford to not work while in school for 3 years. That being said, it is difficult to work with the course load and unpredictable schedule. We don't usually know our schedule for the semester until like a week before we start, which makes it really hard to coordinate with a job. I work about 18 hours a week and I feel like that's even too much sometimes. Clinical placements are always up in the air until the very last minute and are sometimes even on weekends. My schedule this semester is class on Mondays and Fridays and clinicals on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I wouldn't bother contacting them, they're about to release decisions and they'd probably just tell you to reapply with the new info next cycle if you don't get in.

Hi Sarah, Is it 3 yrs or 2? When I called they said 24 months and we would be able to get licensed after taking the NCLEX which we would be able to do after year one. Maybe I spoke with someone in nursing that doesn't know, but are you able to clarify the length for ELMSN..

Hi! It's a 3 year program, and you can take the NCLEX after the second year but you still have to finish the third year for the masters. Here is a clip from the website:

"The Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing at SF State is a six-semester program. This program prepares students who possess a non-nursing bachelor's degree for the national licensing exam (NCLEX-RN) to become a Registered Nurse.  Students are eligible for the NCLEX-RN upon completion of four semesters and the program culminates with an applied research course or a master's thesis. "

Has anyone heard back today?

It's a 3 year, 6 semester program. You are eligible to take the NCLEX after year 2 but can't really work as a nurse until after you finish year 3.

Finally heard back from SFSU. No acceptance. I now have to decide between SMU or Simmons. I haven't heard back from UOP.
