i'm considering going there.

what is their reputation? do their grads get jobs as easily as anyone else?

btw, i know their credits don't transfer. pls dont bring it up, it's not an issue for me.

Thank You, but because of the customer service I received I dont even consider that school anymore. I emailed the Administrator and Head of KAPLAN in Florida with the rudeness of this employee. This person don't derserve to have this job, there's a lot of unemployed people who got layoff to better fit this job.

I am trying to get into the RN program for Sept 2009. Can any of you tell me if I could get in the program through your experience beucase the anxiety is killing me? I sent all my paperwork in before the due date. My Teas score was 80 and wonder test was 25. I have a BS and completed all the pre-reqs. Do I get a call, a letter, or an email telling me if I am accepted into the program.

Your scores aren't that bad. I would say that you have a very good chance of getting in, but then again, I'm not the one doing the choosing. I, personally, did not get a call until about a week before the official orientation. I'm not sure when that date is for you, but they usually give you that information when they give you the information for the necessary paperwork that needs to be turned in for consideration. Later, an official letter comes in the mail from the DON that welcomes you into the program before school begins. At least, I think that is how it went. I know for sure that the call came before the letter.

Good luck to you

whats this i hear about kaplan being accredited now? accredited by wasc or what? the person who told me didnt know the details.

a bit of advice for all of you trying to get into kaplan or other pay schools like national......

First of all I am currently RN program at City I waitlisted. A tried previously to get into Kaplan which was then Maric(name changed bc they have a bad rap) they basically told me because I had all my pre-reqs up to Bachelor level there was a very low chance I would get in unless I retook classes with them. I had A's and a couple B's in all my pre-reqs. (This basically meant pay them more money.) So I said screw Maric. At National they gave me the run around for the same reason. My mom who is a nurse here in SD actually knows some of the instructors at National and they told her I needed to keep calling and they might not take me for the same reason. Finally after 6 months of bugging them nearly every other day they sent me a letter saying I wasnt accepted for "reasons undisclosed" lol.

Sadly, from talking with students in those programs and instructors its not a great school. You will get accepted based on how much money you will need to pay to graduate. If you have no pre-reqs done its probably a good chance you will get in. My mom's hospital will not hire RNs from Kaplan. Also sadly with the economy new grads are having a hard time and most hospitals at least around here will prefer BSN so I am at a disadvantage as well. I will probably go straight into a RN-BSN program if I dont get a job right away. Better off to wait on the waitlist in my opinion. Goodluck everyone.

hello,

im new here and considering kaplan, i will come in 2 weeks to maybe take the test for acceptance, im planning to go next year once i pay all my bills, im 90% sure this is where i wanted to go and get my ADN, i have no class transcfipt to transfer i figure that i have to go CNA - ADN route, here are my questions?

what are the hours and days of the classes?

i have past student loans that i will payoff before going and one in collection due to school went bankrupt, but can i have my dad as a co-signer for student loans?

how likely it is to get a job to start as an ADN RN ? How much do they start you?

I have very good work ethics and always a self starter, this willbe a career change for me and always have a passion for healthcare, im considering kaplan because im 30 yrs old and dont want to waste years on waiting list.

thanks a bunch!

I have all my pre-recs done and was accepted into Kaplan. Maric didn't change their name to Kaplan due to a bad rep, but because Kaplan bought Maric and re-vamped (sp?) their program. Marid did have a bad name, but Kaplan is showing their imporvements. I don't get the "ew, you go to that school." look when I tell people where I am attending school. I have heard that Kaplan students are very respectful and eager to learn.

When I applied to Kaplan, the deadline was April 14th. I found out I got into the program on May 2nd. They called me and told me, then I recieved my letter with what I needed to do and when my orientation was.

Good Luck to those of you who are applying, and also those who are already in a RN program (wherever it may be).

I'm on the exact same boat as you. I start City this fall after waitlisting because Maric (which it was at the time) told me that I would be able to take $10,000 off the price since my pre-reqs were done, but it was much harder to get in since I did have them done. Then they told me the price tag even with the ten thousand off and I was like no way. It is a shame though to see that BSN graduates are getting the jobs over ADN and we all take the same test in the end. So I will probably be continuing my education as well, crossing my fingers that I will get at least some sort of nursing job when I graduate.

ok two people have brought it up but haven't been specific. so which hospitals don't hire kaplan students. is this something they will confirm if you call and ask?

I haven't heard of any hospitals not hiring from Kaplan. I work at a local hospital and am pretty much in for my extern in March and then RN after graduation in Sept.

When it all comes down to it, we all take the same test and an RN is an RN.

For all of you attending Kaplan, what is your schedule? What days, and what times?! Also I was wondering on the different hospitals they have contracts with. Thanks! I am taking the TEAS test on the 19th of sept. if you have any tips that would be great :)

I came in as a 2nd semester student. I took 3 classes: fundies, A&P 2, and strategies. the terms are 16 weeks The first 8 weeks I was in class Tues - Friday during the day. My longest day was 7:30 -4. shortest was 12-2. The next 4 weeks I went to class tues, thurs and friday. My longest day again being 730-4, my shortest being 1230-4. the last 4 weeks I went tues (1230-4) and thurs (730-4) and clinicals sat from 3-9.

So it will vary mattering on your clinicals and if you have any gen eds.

My next term (3rd term for the program) starts on Sept 14th, and we go to 10 hr clinicals mon or tues, and then have ms lecture and pharm mon or wed basically from 930-5.

Hope this helps!
