San Diego Job Market

Published

Hello Everyone. I wanted to see what the job market it like for ICU nurses in the area. I absolutely loved San Diego and want to get out of my small town I currently live and grew up in. I'm 25 without kids or obligations which is why I want to move. I have a year of PCU/Tele experience, 2 years of rehab/LTACH and 1.5 years of ICU experience, with the last 6 months being CVICU. I am also currently in a BSN program. My question is, will I have any issues finding job in the area? Any input is appreciated.

Specializes in burn ICU, SICU, ER, Trauma Rapid Response.

I don't live there anymore but San Diego is my home town. Years ago when there were lots of open nursing jobs I had to go to LA to get a new grad position. Nursing jobs in SD have always been scarce and since 2008 seem to not exist at all. I know several excellent and very experienced RNs here in the Midwest who have been looking and applying for jobs in SD for years without success.

If there are position they are only going to accept the most qualified applicants.

If I were you I would concentrate on getting your BSN and specialty certification and building several years worth of excellent job performance. Also take the opportunity to cross train into as many areas as you can so that you can be more flexible when applying for jobs.
