I'm looking for an assignment in San Antonio and would like to know where to work and not to work!:wink2:

Hello-

I work in the MICU and the ratio is ALWAYS 2:1. When I interviewed for the position the manager was very clear that he does no believe in tripling ICU patients. On the other hand my husband works on the med/renal floor and the ratio is generally 6:1 and he loves it.

Will you be working days or noc? Generally days can be alot busier, but not all the time.

I floated to the tele floor (by choice) it was awkward at first because I had to really prioritize because of the patient load 6-7:1 But once I got in the groove I things it was cool. They people on the floor were helpful and friendly. Heck I even floated to ER and it was a blast.... You can really learn alot and beef up ur resume here!!!!

Anymore questions, feel free to shoot me a message!

GOOD LucK!!!!

I'll be working days on TELE like I did in Michigan. It was chaotic before so I'll assume it will be here too. Never charted electronically so other than being nervous about learning a new way to chart I'm excited! I start orientation tomorrow. If you work at Metro on days perhaps we'll eventually meet. Thanks for the information!

Skye....

I am happy to give you insight to Metro Methodist...email me. I work there now as a traveler.

Im currently doing a day shift assignment in the MICU at Metropolitan Methodist in San Antonio. My first day of orientation I was floated to the IICU. I was told by the other travelers to expect to be floated to the IICU or the SICU about once a week. Of course in my interview with the manager back in January he told me they "rarely" float travelers and only do it when they really need you to. I know as a traveler we get floated first before staff, but damn! I feel like I got the bait and switch.

The MICU nurses are great and its hard to get mad at the manager because he gets right in there with you and helps you when you really need it. My day in the IICU he discharged a patient for me while I was admitting one.

So my two cents is to expect to be the float pool no matter what area you are hired to work in.

Anyone know if any of the military hospitals in SA use travelers? Of special interest would be BAMC, but wouldn't mind Lackland or Randolph either.

Thanks,

I have heard this is a great city and I am planning on taking my next assignment there in October. I get tons of ER offers for this city. If you are interested in a travel buddy let me know.

Anybody know where I can take a critical care course at in San Antonio? I really want to step my game up and be the best nurse that I can be and being new and having to wait so long for employment due to the economy has really hurt me somewhat any suggestions would be great and so appreciated :)

Try master train.

Thanks but I have tried master train and a program called trncc or TNCC? But that is for people that work in the ER i have tried Alamo College but they only offer dialysis training and EKG courses........I signed up with ANCC for critical care nurses (they have an online program)but they only offer their program to hospitals as an orientation program Im assuming they use it as part of the nursing residency program or whatever they call it now?
