Samuel Merritt University MSN FNP Summer 2012

Published

I applied for MSN FNP for summer 2012 and just wondering when will they start sending acceptance/denial letters. I'm on the edge of my seat since I mailed my application. Anyone out there who has the same situation?? I cannot wait to get this over with. :/

If you don't mind what is your work experience/volunteer exp for whoever applied for the same program. and do they only really accept 24 students??!!

Did the program send out a mass email for initial offer of admissions to everyone today? Or did people already get an official letter? If anyone could provide some info it would be great. Thanks

I got an email. My letter is coming :)

The director of the program responded to an email I sent with an offer. My letter is on its way as well.

I was wondering if anyone has accepted matriculation into the upcoming summer SMU 2012 FNP program. I would like to exchange some contact info for possible study groups and/or other school related items. CalicoRiN? Militarywife04? I will start a post on the "mysmu"

Thanks.

Hey TapangoRN, I would love to exchange info for school. I will be starting the summer 2012 hybrid program for the Oakland Campus. My email is [email protected] if you wanna send me your info! Also, congrats!!

Wish i was starting with you all this summer. I start in the Fall for Sacramento Campus. I'm going to email them for the list of books b/c I have to get a head start on reading. My email is [email protected]. I'm curious to see how different the hybrid class is vs on campus. Don't we graduate the same time?

Ok sent you guys an email with the attached list of textbooks we are going to be using for the program.

Hi Everyone!

I'm not an applicant for the MSN FNP program at Samuel Merritt, but I will be a student in one of their direct entry programs this coming Fall. I am kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place and I would like to read some advice from experienced nurses or new grads. So, here goes my story.

I was recently offered admission to their ELMSN Case Management program. I originally applied to their ELMSN FNP program but got rejected because the admission officers for the FNP program thought that I would make a better candidate for the Case Management program. So, they asked me if I would like to forward my application to the Case Management department and I said "of course!" They warned me that I would not be able to switch to the ELMSN-FNP program and I was fine with it because I really want to get started on nursing school. I went to the ELMSN-CM interview and got a phone call a few hours after my interview saying that I made it into the program! I also applied to their ABSN program but haven't received any news from them yet. So, my question is which program would you advise me to go for if my ultimate goal is to have a master's degree and be a nurse practitioner. I feel that the ABSN might be a better choice for my long term goal, but I am scared that the MSN FNP program will no longer exist by the time I apply (due to the whole DNP issue) and that I won't get in the first time. Also, it is soo hard to let go of the ELMSN-CM offer just because it's higher education and I already have a bachelor's degree in biology. Please help! Any advice is appreciated! :)

Thanks a bunch!

I would say if your goal is to be a FNP, then start with the ABSN program and apply to the FNP program again for when you finish. Personally, I wouldn't Comprimise your end goal and this way you will have a great shot at the program if you already go there.

Thank you for your input! Much appreciated!

How about doing the CM program and then just get a post masters certification as an FNP? There are tons of accredited schools that offer online post masters FNP certification if you're interested in that. I'm planning to get a post masters cert. as a peds np (though harder to find online programs for peds) after my FNP degree :) I would say go straight for a masters...hard to get a new grad BSN job RN job these days...

UCSF has the post masters fnp cert. You might want to research the requirements for admission (ie clinical experience as an RN) .
