Members are discussing various topics related to their nursing program admissions, such as deadlines for health care requirements, background checks, acceptance emails, and orientation information. Some members are also sharing their experiences with being admitted to different cohorts and creating Facebook groups to connect with their peers. Additionally, there is confusion about the timing of acceptance notifications for different cohorts.
Hi ya'll, starting a discussion for those who applied to Summer 2025 cohort at SMU! I'm curious to know if anyone has gotten any emails/updates? I personally applied to the Oakland campus. Goodluck everyone! : ).

I have over 200 hours as a medical scribe and have some hours as a RBT and caregiver. I had volunteer hours but not medical related. I don't know much about their decision process but from what I've researched the main things they focus on is the 3.0 in last 60 semester units, who writes your LOR, and your essays. I had a pretty bad GPA from my bachelors but raised it with classes I took after I graduated and got pretty lucky as my anatomy professor at SFSU also teaches at SMU so I requested him for my LOR. I also think that following up with some of the admissions counselors and going to seminars betters your chances but I could be wrong. Lmk if you have any questions I can try to help if you want.
Hiiiii, thanks for sharing!! My bachelor's GPA was bad too, but I heard SMU focus on more your prerequisites, I don't know if it's right or not. Can I ask where you did your pharmacology and pathology? I looked through the post, some people were admitted when their class still in progress. However, I plan to apply next Spring, so I'm able to finish these 2 courses before December.
I took them on ucsd extension but they don't always have them available. SMU also have a list of places you can take them. https://www.samuelmerritt.edu/college-nursing/accelerated-bachelor-science-nursing if you scroll to the middle it has lists for both classes.

Thanks for share! That helps a lot!

have you all completed the list ? I have a question where can o find the one for the background check ? Thanks
Its called castle branch, you'll make an account using the email that you applied to nursing cas with, it should automatically populate but if it doesn't populate theres a package code the school provides.

Everyone I just got my acceptance to SMU Summer 25 at the San Mateo campus. I am so excited. I applied back in 2024 for all three cohorts but was on the waiting list each time. So I am so happy I finally got in. Did anyone else get into the San Mateo location? I wish everyone all the best 🙂
Hello Sahiba,
Can I know your GPA? I'm going to apply the program, I'm so stressed?

Hi @jianying wang my GPA overall is 3.3, they calculate all your science classes and for that my GPA is 3.5. As long as you have a C and better in your pre-requisite classes you will be fine. Hopefully this helps, don't stress so much and I recommend meeting with a counselor. Good luck with everything 🌸
