Samuel Merritt University ABSN Fall 2023

Hi everyone. I wanted to start a discussion about the ABSN Samuel Merritt program for Fall 2023. I have applied to the Sacramento campus and hoping to get accepted. has anyone else applied? or be in the program I would love to hear more about it.

Hi @Iamashark. I clarified with #9. She received a provisional admit and not official admission

I see. the provisional admit email tricked me at first too. It made it sound like I got in for the Fall in the first paragraph ("a seat has become available") but then the second paragraph said I would get in if a seat became available... so I was confused and emailed him back to clarify haha

Also if I get in last min I am going to be very back tracked cuz we have to do so much crap before starting like enrolling into clsses, getting your scrubs, shoes, physical examination by doc fill out papers, vaccines, CPR, buy two different programs, buy your books, and also find a loaner which u has to be thru a private loaner etc ?

Did they mention if classes will be fully in person or hybride? Any changes to that?

Hi guys! 

I just emailed the Associate Dean and he had let me know there was an update in the waitlist. I was originally placed #11 and now #5. 

I also reached out to a current student who just finished her first term of the ABSN program in San Mateo. She mentioned that there were 3 semesters, 9 terms, and each of those terms are 5 weeks long. Each term you'd be taking 2 classes. Her first term consisted of online zoom lectures and one in person skills lab once a week from 8-4, but each term the schedule changes as you'd be taking diff classes. Week 5-10 (second term), would be the heaviest since that's when you start clinicals on top of your two lectures, skills lab, and she mentioned that clinical could either be two 8 hr shifts or one 12 hr shift. Clinicals depends on what placement you get so there's the am shifts (6:30/7 am - 3 pm) or pm (3-11 pm). She also mentioned commuting is manageable as many commute 1-2 hours. But personally I don't think I'd want to commute as classes and clinicals are early in the morning and the morning traffic in the bay ain't no joke ?

@xmlvgp I was 8th and am now only 4th in line. When were you told that you were 11th? Thanks for all the info btw!! That's so helpful.

Beginning of august when I was first told about being waitlisted. I didn't get any update until now when I had to email this morning asking if the waitlist had moved

Hi guys! Do you know if there has been movement in the waitlist? Last time I had to email them but wondering if they've sent out emails

Can someone PLEASE help! I received an email on August 1st saying that I'm #5 on the waitlist for fall 2023 at San Mateo. I am lost in terms of what I should be doing in the mean time. I applied to FAFSA and I'm scheduled to get my vaccines and drug test and I'm renewing my CPR this week. Apparently the person in charge of overseeing San Mateo's ABSN quit 3 weeks ago and I've been calling for days. I received the contact of the person taking over only to have my email "blocked". This is making my nervous. 

Who do I contact to know about the waitlist?? I will also appreciate any guidance from others! Thanks!

Hi! I was also surprised bc I've been emailing that advisor only to find out that he is no longe employed. For any updates on the waitlist I been contacting the associate Dean. But he was out today and this morning so I'm expecting a reply back sometime tmo or the week.
