Hey everyone,
I know this is early, but the application period for the fall Sacramento and San Mateo cohort will soon be here! This might be the first thread. Anyway, application deadline isn't until April, but if people could post their past and current GPA's and their HESI test scores so I can get idea of what the pool of applicants is like. It is so hard to tell what a good application is for every application period.
My last 60 units GPA 3.9
Science GPA 3.1 (Maybe 3.5 if I can submit my new chemistry class that ends May 4th -- hopefully with a grade A in May).
HESI scores -- taking in February and in March -- if I have to retake it.
Working as an EMT for 7 months.
No volunteer experience.
Hi everyone! I finally decided to join all nurses so that I could contribute to this post. I am currently on the waitlist for the Sacramento cohort. I moved from #5 to #2 on the waitlist. I am still really hoping to get in. It seems like there is still a possibility based on past forum posts that I have seen. There are still a couple of months before the cohort kicks off so keep hanging in there for those who are still on the waitlist!
I just wanted to update everyone on the waitlist. I am currently 2nd on the waitlist and I received an email today asking for me to come to orientation for the Sacramento campus due to the fact that I am so high up on the waitlist. The email says that since I am so high on the list the chances of me getting in are such that they want my to be prepared in the case that I do get in. They still cannot guarantee me a spot for the September cohort. However, due to all the effort that this takes they will guarantee me a spot for the next cohort that starts in January! Needless to say I am very excited to know that I will be going to Samuel Merritt if not in September then for sure in January!
Hi guys! Congrats to all accepted and good luck to those waiting :)
I'm new here and hoping someone can help me out with a couple questions since Derric hasn't gotten back to me!
1) My degree required several Chemistry courses up to OChem II. Since any Chem w/ lab is okay, will the most recent course always be considered regardless of its level? I'm enrolled in an easier Chem and expect an A. I'm hoping this is the grade I use to calculate the GPA?
2) For GPA of the last 60 units- This means all units regardless of the course, right? Even if it's one of the 4 science courses, or electives taken at a community college to boost GPA, or retaking a course that's already been passed?
3) Let's say I calculate my last 52 units, but I took 16 units the semester before that. How do I know which 8 are added into that?

Hi! I worked for a few months as a CNA and before that I had 3-month-long internships at local hospitals through my university. I also worked for a year as an in-home caregiver. I also added that i had experience working in an educational setting so that gave me leadership, communication, and empathy skills needed in nursing.
I think it's the way you present what you have gained in your health experiences rather than the sheer amount that you have. For example, I wrote about how my 1 year experience truly impacted me to advocate for quality healthcare since I saw how limiting it was in my care of an old lady. Same with my 3 month long internships, I just talked about what I had gained and how that led me, step by step, through a journey of nursing.
Hope this helps!
