Hi! How many are reapplying? This will be my second attempt, my first was for this Spring at the Sacramento campus. I had a lot of classes in progress/planned still and my bachelor degree wasn’t officially earned (I finally received it last month). All of that is done now but I still have to take my TEAS in a week. I’m really nervous the applicant pool will be massive again!
First time applicant. From what I’ve been told, getting into SMU is really a toss up. I attended the Nursing Success Seminar and had the opportunity to talk to serval current students, the dean of admissions, and many other faculty that confirmed that the applications are weighed in total. One low grade won’t necessarily get your application rejected and perfect scores don’t guarantee a spot. For example, I met an ELMSN 2nd year student who got in - 1st try-with a D in Chemistry, which would disqualify this person from any other program. I met another student who had “perfect” grades who didn’t get in until their 3rd attempt. My friend got into the traditional BSN on her first attempt, while completing courses at community college. I was also told that Oakland is the most competitive campus. Just wanted to pass this info along because it really helped me to stop trying to figure out who/why do some get in and others don’t.

Totally! I'm trying to tell myself to not be disheartened.

It's my first time.
This is #4 for me.

Are you applying to other school?

I'm trying SFSU ABSN as well...but I feel like my chances are pretty low for that one. No volunteering under my belt. You?

Same. SFSU is actually my first choice, but I have very little hope that I'll get in. CSU nursing schools in general are insanely competitive. As for volunteer experience, I've worked in healthcare for the past 3 years, and worked in community based services before then. Hopefully that'll help my chances.

Yeah! I think it has a lot of weight for sure. Good luck!
