Just wanted to start an information-sharing thread for those applying for the ABSN Summer 19 cohort at Samuel Merritt University (in Oakland, CA and San Mateo, CA). Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi everyone,

I applied a day before the deadline, and received my preliminary email almost two weeks ago. Although, my preliminary email looks different compared to nurse_steph94. I didn't get any "check-off" list... Email said this:

""Thank you for your interest in Samuel Merritt University. This email confirms that we have completed our preliminary review of your application(s). Email is the official method of communication. If you are expecting an email from us please check your spam and junk folders before calling. Throughout the application process you will receive notifications and updates when they are appropriate. Please refrain from calling the admission office as this slows the application review timeline.

? my email looked nothing like the one above. I applied early November for San Mateo June start as my first start and I received this 2 days ago

My email was simple also. I didn’t have any classes in progress- all classes completed and had letters of reference completed by time of submitting.

I should also mention I had 2 classes in progress that were done in December and nursing cas sent a notification saying they received my transcript (with the completed courses) last week. A couple days ago I did the transcript verification on nursing cas and did the final submission. Later that day SMU sent me that short email.

Thats interesting that there is clearly two types of emails. I applied for the Jan start and was wait listed. Now I am applying for the April start but both times have received the detailed email and not the simple one.

It could be that the emails are campus-specific too?

@missleth yes! i was finishing one prereq but as soon as classes were over(mid dec) and grades were posted(mid jan), i submitted the transcript and made changes to nursingCas application immediately.

for those who are wondering, i too, received a simple prelim email as the 2 users' posts a little above mine. i applied to the april/san mateo cohort.

Hmm.. yeah I applied for April San Mateo too. It might just be for people who have something missing or still in progress then? She messed up and said incomplete on one of mine and changed it to complete. Then she sent me the revised one with everything saying complete.

Yah, hopefully for the April cohort they let people know soon so everyone can get loans and what not figured out. I have been wanting to apply for other scholarships but can't because most want your official acceptance letter or want you to already be in the program. Not to mention the wait is killing us all haha

I asked Anne when we should be hearing back and she said they will hopefully have admission decisions by mid March. ?

Im assuming that is for the Oakland campus though since the April start has first day orientation March 21st

I was under the impression that both San Mateo and Oakland both had a start date in April. While San Mateo has a second one that starts in June.
