Just wanted to start an information-sharing thread for those applying for the ABSN Summer 19 cohort at Samuel Merritt University (in Oakland, CA and San Mateo, CA). Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi! Same here - I checked the portal and I'm waitlisted for two ABSN starts, but haven't received an email for either. Has this happened to anyone else in the past? What should we expect?

if you don’t mind me asking, what were your stats + experience?
Thanks in advance!
I got a 94.4% on the HESI; I graduated from UCD with a 3.34 GPA and retook stats & physiology at a local community college. I think NursingCas recalculated my GPA has something like a 3.54? But that included the classes I retook (so SMU would have recalculated it). My GPA didn't include my courses in english, patho, or pharm.
I only had about 1 year of actual paid work experience at an optometrist office. Lots of volunteer work and internships related to the nutrition

I had no volunteer hours or hospital experience. I worked as an aide in my local pharmacy during undergrad was eventually given my pharmacy tech license for having worked a certain amount of hours and I've been a licensed tech for about 1.5 years. My undergraduate gpa was a 3.2 (biochemistry major), prerequisite gpa is about 3.5 (I took anatomy, micro and stats in the same semester and physio over summer with pharm and patho). 90% on HESI. A chemistry professor and my pharmacist manager wrote my letters of req, both know me well and I was accepted for san Mateo June start ?

I graduated from UC with an average GPA of about ~3.3 (science and last 60 units). I scored a ~90% on the HESI. I have no volunteer or hospital experience at all. I've been working in research (discovery medicine and clinical research) for the past ~5 years. My rec letters were from: (1) Physio professor (2) colleague at work (3) Head of pharmacology/microbiology department at UC. But i think my essays tied everything together and made my app much more compelling.
