Hi Everyone! I know this is a bit early but I will be applying to SMU for the ABSN program of Summer 2014 (Oakland Campus). I am currently finishing my Bachelor's degree in health science at CSUEB right now and I will be done in the fall. I just wanted to start a discussion on this topic and get to know some people who are applying to the program for summer 2014. Let's get to know each other, share our stats, etc.
Here are my estimated stats that they look at:
Last 60 units GPA: 3.5
Pre req GPA: 3.4
Teas: 83 but I am re taking it in a couple of weeks
Experience: I am a CNA and Med tech currently. I volunteer at John Muir hospital and at American Red Cross.
I hope to hear from some prospective applicants soon!
Are you all sticking to the word requirements for writing samples? The paper application says 1-2 pages but the online app says 250-300 words. I was thinking about calling to ask if it would be okay to go over the word amount
I think the point is to be as concise as possible. They probably become more annoyed than excited about having to read extra...
Yeah, true that. What cohort are you applying for n.a norcal?
Honestly, not quite sure yet!! I know time is running out... I'm applying to several ABSN and NP programs. I really want to get into acute care, so the ABSN is a backup if I don't get into any ACNP programs. Since I live in the South Bay, I think the San Mateo cohort that starts up in June will be my target. What about you?
Hi Rachel i see that you have a degree in progress as well. Did you have to send something in verifying that you would be graduating soon? I forgot to include a note from my registrar, but i was under the impression we didn't have to prove anything with graduation until we are admitted. I haven't heard any updates besides they were reviewing my application and this was a couple weeks ago. I haven't heard anything about it being completed and passed on so i am pretty nervous. Have you heard anything? Sorry 21 questions i am so nervous!!

Hi spatel,
I've been wondering about that also. Before I saw the online app I was just planning on sticking to the 1 - 2 page requirement stated in the paper application but I did a word count and my first writing sample is almost 500 words. So now I'm torn. Since my reference letters are all from the paper application I am planning on submitting the paper application to keep everything together so maybe I'll just stick with the 1 - 2 pages and hope for the best?
Also, does anyone know if we can submit a personal check or if it should be a cashier's check?
