Hi Everyone! I know this is a bit early but I will be applying to SMU for the ABSN program of Summer 2014 (Oakland Campus). I am currently finishing my Bachelor's degree in health science at CSUEB right now and I will be done in the fall. I just wanted to start a discussion on this topic and get to know some people who are applying to the program for summer 2014. Let's get to know each other, share our stats, etc.
Here are my estimated stats that they look at:
Last 60 units GPA: 3.5
Pre req GPA: 3.4
Teas: 83 but I am re taking it in a couple of weeks
Experience: I am a CNA and Med tech currently. I volunteer at John Muir hospital and at American Red Cross.
I hope to hear from some prospective applicants soon!
That's what happened last year too. If you read back from their posts, they were all told they would find out any minute starting the end of Feb and they didn't find out until March 22. The cohort that starts in June found out first too! They must have a harder time making decisions for Oakland because they only accept applications once a year, at least that's my guess. Thanks for checking in with them.
Hi everyone, this is my first post on allnurses! I've been following this thread for a while now so I thought it was time for me to post something. I also applied for the Oakland cohort. I emailed ----------- on Wednesday and she said that she did not know how soon we would hear back and that the "school of nursing has not responded to us yet". I feel pretty ridiculous for checking my email like 30x/ day but I too am feeling super antsy at this point!
I don't think there is any point in calling. I'm pretty confident that -------------- and whoever else will let us all know once they hear from nursing faculty. There's not much they can do if they haven't heard from them.
Following this thread. We are considering a move to the area and I would love to do ABSN at San Mateo. It's a very short drive from where we'd be living. I would be applying for the fall most likely.
I was hoping someone could give insight to the financial aid situation since the tuition is quite high. Not higher than a regular 4 year in the end, I suppose, and we'd be done that much more quickly and hopefully working as a nurse that much sooner, but I worry that it will be difficult to get that large a sum all at once.

so far the waitlist has moved 3 spots. I am now 4 and I have no idea what is going on. I don't know what's taking so long and I don't want to bombard be with emails
have you moved at all!? Last week she told me I moved to #6.
I'm guessing Oakland cohort will find out next week. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say Friday. Last year Summer Oakland cohort found out on the 22nd. Let's hope!
