Hi Everyone! I know this is a bit early but I will be applying to SMU for the ABSN program of Summer 2014 (Oakland Campus). I am currently finishing my Bachelor's degree in health science at CSUEB right now and I will be done in the fall. I just wanted to start a discussion on this topic and get to know some people who are applying to the program for summer 2014. Let's get to know each other, share our stats, etc.
Here are my estimated stats that they look at:
Last 60 units GPA: 3.5
Pre req GPA: 3.4
Teas: 83 but I am re taking it in a couple of weeks
Experience: I am a CNA and Med tech currently. I volunteer at John Muir hospital and at American Red Cross.
I hope to hear from some prospective applicants soon!
I got an email last week saying my file was incomplete and needed one more transcript. I also noticed the email listed some of my in-progress classes incorrectly. I emailed back right away with the transcript and clarified the in-progress classes. I have not received an email back. The waiting is so hard!!
I also originally got an email because she couldn't find my rec letters, but then she tracked them down and emailed me back to tell me the file was in progress. Also wouldn't worry too much as I read from last cohorts that not everyone gets that first "in progress" one.
Got one late last night that my app is complete and is moving forward. I don't understand how it is now gonna take the faculty four-five months to decide.
Hi everyone! I'm planning on applying to SMU's San Mateo location after I graduate this spring. I'm aiming for the Summer 2015 cohort but after I graduate Spring 2014 I need to take 4 more prereqs (physio, micro, pharm, and patho) during Fall 2014 at a community college (probably pharm and patho through SMU).
Do I have any chance of getting in during Summer 2015 if my application has 4 in progress classes or should I wait to apply for Spring 2015? I know it's too early to worry but I'm such a planner. Any response and advice is greatly appreciated!
If you meet all of the other requirements and are allowed to have four classes in progress, then I would if i were you. It can't hurt you any and you never know what'll happen! The counselors at SMU have also said that many students reapply and end up getting in their 2nd or 3rd time around!
I think you also should really focus on getting A's in those classes so you have a better chance. Hope that helps
@missbeee those 4 pre-req classes can be intense and are crucial to get into the program....just make sure you dont spread yourself so thin and overwhelm yourself if you take them all together... I took pharm and patho together and it was tough but doable... I cant imagine adding two more science classes on top of that....but thats just me... And like spatel8790 said cant hurt to try and apply! Best of luck!
