Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2013

U.S.A. California

Published

I haven't found a thread for this yet, so I figured I would start one! I am applying in August, after I have my grades from my summer courses. I was wondering what stats other applicants have as well :) I still have to complete human physio lab, general chem and lab, nutrition, and psych so I am not sure if I will get in this time around, but it can't hurt to apply!

Pervious major: Cell and Molecular Biology

Last 60 GPA: 3.4

Prereq GPA (so far): 3.9

TEAS Adjusted Individual Score: 92.7%

TEAS National and Program Percentile Rank: 99

Im excited to connect with other prospective students :)

The waiting game is so nerve wracking!! To lighten up the mood - where else is everyone applying to?

The waiting is killing me too! I am still finishing 2 pre-req's though (Micro and Pathophys), so that's keeping me pretty occupied. I haven't applied anywhere else yet. I'm thinking of sending in apps to Cal State Stanislaus' new ABSN program (in Stockton) and maybe even to USF for their ELMSN's program...it's more expensive than SMU's ABSN but not by much. The only thing is it would take 2 years instead of 1 and I think my husband would faint if I told him it would be even longer before I was done with school and getting a job! :)

Scroll up :) The ABSN at Stan is a joke!!!!! I had an awful awful awful experience... I am leaving this thread as it no longer applies to me (SMU Spring 13 cohort accepted!!!!) so if anyone has questions, feel free to PM me :)

BEST OF LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!

Hmm I haven't looked into Stan's program (@stacymarie982's experience seemed to detour me from checking that one out..so thanks and CONGRAT's on getting into the spring cohort!!). I'm actually planning to apply to quite a few programs. I've already applied to SMU's ABSN and ELMSN case managment program; WesternU's ELMSN... Next on the list are Northridge, San Marcos, Cal State LA, NYU, and SUNY Downstate... Hopefully all the app work will keep me preoccupied, although SMU is definitely my first choice :)

Btw, has anyone received anything from SMU on the status of your app (i.e. in progress for review, etc.)? All they've really done so far is cash my check.. I'm assuming their #1 priority right now is getting the spring cohort in order.... So just wondering, anything? Anyone? :)

I just received an email that my app is in progress! My check was cashed a few weeks ago and I just got the email, so I'm guessing they are finishing up with Spring and Moving onto Summer :) Which campus did you apply to?

Hi everyone! Congrats on getting your apps in. I applied to SM Oak 2013 ABSN also. Just waiting now for SM to respond now. I'm applying with:

3.7 last 60 units GPA; 4.0 in sciences; 2 point something in my undergrad

89% TEAS

Second language

EMT experience

I'm also applying to Linfield's ABSN program in Portland. Is anyone applying to other ABSN programs too? Which ones?

I applied for Summer 2013 as well (Oakland as my first choice, San Mateo as my second). I haven't received any email from them saying my app is in progress, but I did call and they said they had received it. I wonder if I should worry that I haven't gotten an email.

On another note, does anyone out there know anyone who has been through the program? I'm just curious as to how they structure the in class and clinical schedules (ie. is it class time and skills labs in the a.m. and then off to clinicals for the balance of the day)? Or clinicals only a couple of times a week like some other programs I've heard of? Also, I heard they give a one week break in between each major area of learning. Does anyone know if that's true?

I'm thinking positive thoughts and assuming I will get in so just trying to visualize/mentally prepare for what that 12 months will be like.

Thanks!

"Your application has passed the SMU Admission review and has been found complete. It will be further forwarded to the Nursing department for the next evaluation process."

I had received this email about 2 days ago. I guess we still have a couple of months of waiting left...

*I applied for San Mateo.

I just posted in another forum asking about this too! I think clinicals/labs are 2-3 days a week and classes are also 2-3 days a week, depending on the class, if the clinical 8 or 12 hours, or if it is a class with only a lab and not a clinical, etc. This is just what I assume from reading other forums that are a few years old, so I am not sure if it is still accurate. If anyone else has other info please post, and Ill post here if I learn anything new :)
