So, who applied?
adusf84.... glad you got your email! very exciting indeed. I took CPR last year thru the company where I work but it will expire before I start school. So I hear that as long as you take a course thru the American Heart Association and it's tailored to Healthcare Providers. 3-4 hours total. Check out http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3012360. For example there is one near me from 1-4pm on Sat, 2/21. As far as financial aid, I'm going to talk to my friend who just finished SMU ABSN at San Mateo to see how to go about applying for this. May also check with my bank, BofA. It's definitely a lot of loot but so worth it I hear. I believe that when it comes to finding a job, some organizations look to hire RNs with SMU training.
I would also love to know what our schedule is like so I can plan my son's daycare. brendalwelch, the class that you are talking about on the 21st, is it with American Heart Association? I live in Mountain House, my commute to Oakland would be about 52 miles one way! So much to think about!
Hey all. I got my acceptance email today also from SMU for the SF campus! It is very exciting!! Yes I share your concerns about cost. I can't speak for anyone else, but you might want to talk to one of the Admissions Counselors about your concerns.
For example, there may be hospitals outside of the Bay Area where one could work for 6 months to a year to gain some experience before returning to the Bay Area. Also since we won't be graduating until 2012, it's quite possible things will have improved by then.
You can get your BLS from a company here in the EBay.
Congrats to all who have been accepted, and Good Luck to everyone else who's still waiting!
OakRN2b...I have thought about BART (I am near concord) but I have a three year old and I am trying to figure out how early I can get her to child care and still make it to campus on time. I wish I knew what the class and clinical schedule was like so I could plan a little.
Adusf84...I took my CPR through http://heartstartcpr.net/osb/showitem.cfm?Category=1
The class was in San Ramon and was pretty quick.
