Thanks for starting this thread! I can't believe it takes SMU 6 months to process applications and send out letters. Wow - but I did like the new NursingCAS system and thought it was a breeze. I'm applying to Oakland and I know the competition is stiff so I wish everyone the best of luck! My stats:
Overall Post-High School GPA: 3.57
Last 60 Units GPA: 3.83
Sciences Prereq GPA: 3.75
TEAS: 91.8%
Letters of Rec from my Kaiser General Practitioner and Kaiser Volunteer Director
6 Months+ Volunteer Experience in Kaiser Walnut Creek ER
I am 38 years old and transitioning from a 15+ year career in Technology Project Management to Nursing! I'm super excited but anxious to see how I will manage. I have a husband and two small kids (ages 3 and 5 1/2) so it will be tough to balance and prioritize school, family, life (think it will be in that order!). But hey, I think you can manage anything for a year. My friend who is a single mom to a 5 year old just completed the ABSN at SMU's San Mateo campus with a 4.0... if she can do it, I can!!
I too can't believe how long it takes to get a response from SMU. I applied to all three campuses for the summer and I think I might also apply for the SF fall start. I also have a three year old and I am transitioning from a 10+ year mortgage career to nursing. I have Oakland as my first choice (the other two would make for a long commute). It will be interesting to see how this works with a small child, but I am encouraged to hear that your single mom friend made it through. Best of luck to everyone!
