Hi everyone! I'm starting this discussion for those who applied for smu ABSN program for the Spring 2024 cohort! I was curious if any of y'all received updates/email from smu yet. Good luck everyone!  

Has anyone heard about any movement on the waitlist?

I'm sure it played a role in my acceptance into the program. When I spoke with (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) (San Mateo admissions counselor) he said our applications are similar to resumes. So I would say it's definitely a plus to have experience listed in your application.

I applied to the Sacramento ABSN program and heard back Sept. 8th about being waitlisted and then on Sept. 25th about being admitted.

Hi Alsamiri!

I don't think anyone on this thread has applied for the BSN rather we all applied for the ABSN Program. I would call the admissions office and see whether or not they have released any information regarding the BSN program. Those who have been accepted or wait listed for the ABSN were notified on Sept. 8th. It won't be the same for the BSN.

Hope that you get accepted into the BSN program!

Hi I'm new to this post. I am actually a sophomore business major looking to apply to ABSN programs when I graduate. I've been doing a lot of research and I really like SMU. I am currently working on prereps and volunteering. I was wondering if someone could share their stats as an admit for 2023 or 2024 because I can only find student stats from 2019 and 2020. Thanks !

I'm not sure what you mean by stats, but I'm guessing just general info about what might have gotten us admitted? I'm an admit for Spring 2024 (Jan start) and my undergrad GPA was around 2.5 but I (re)took all the prereqs online, including classes with labs, over the past few years and got straight As in them. I volunteered for a hospital for a year and they refused to write a letter for me -.- so I only had professor letters of req. Outside of school stuff, I graduated in 2019 and have been working a corp HR job since that time so a completely unrelated non-nursing field LOL. Hope this helps!

im 20 years old and I got my bachelors and my overall GPA was in the 3.9 , 

my science GPA was a 4.0 

no TEAS required

I had experience as a medical assistant

Hi! We are two months in the program now and everything is going well enough. It's very busy, but manageable, and certainly it depends on whatever else you have going on in your life, like a job or kids - or both! I recommend trying to get your assignments done as soon as possible. Definitely don't wait until the last minute, as some assignments take hours to complete. YouTube nursing videos are a great way to reinforce the material covered in class. Try to study at least a little bit everyday and definitely do the study guides and pay close attention to what instructors consider important. Get a good planner and keep good track of your assignments and reading. There's a lot! I felt like during the first block I was getting my bearings and feeling everything out, so it seemed a little overwhelming at first, but now at the end of the second block, I feel much more comfortable. You do change classes every 5-6 weeks so it requires the ability to adapt to a new situation/class/professor quickly. Clinicals are fun but can feel exhausting too after two 12-hour days. Just stay on top of your assignments and don't be shy to ask for help. The school has some great resources and ultimately they want everyone to succeed!
