Hello!
I'm new to this site, but have been following the allnurses posts regarding Samuel Merritt program applications religiously for a while now. I recently applied to the ABSN and ELMSN - FNP program for the July 1 deadline. Thought it would be great to have a place to provide insight, stay updated and share experiences with all of you through this terrifying journey. I mean we ONLYYY have to wait until October - November to hear anything. Let the wait begin.....
Looking forward to hearing from you all :)
I am sorry I said the month thing, I feel like I upset a couple people. I, as well, have gone through and noticed the trend through the last few cohort threads. I was not on anyway trying to make it seem like I knew more than you guys, and I am sorry if it came out that way. I was honestly just telling you guys what they told us which was that they were falling behind this year because they have more interview candidates than usual so it should take longer. Again, I am sorry if I upset anyone that was never ever my intention.
You didn't upset me at all either! No worries! I think we're all glad for any info sharing that is posted here. Thank you for the contribution. :)
Here are my stats, since we're sharing:
Science GPA = 3.2
Last 60 GPA = 3.3
HESI = 96 (98 is A&P and 100 in math)
3 strong LOA's, one from a professor and one from a previous SMU ABSN grad,
Short time shadowing/volunteering in a doctor's office
Years of community service fundraising for a myoelectric limb bank for children who can't afford prosthetic limbs, for local organizations that help low income women and children, and for foster youth who are aging out of the system.
In my previous career, I held a leadership position as VP of Professional Development in our local branch of a national organization. (It had nothing to do with the medical field, though.) I also won awards for my work in that field.
I also told them how I cared for my mom while she was in hospice care until she passed away and also for my premature twins while they were in the NICU and at home. I know those two don't qualify as medical experience, but I think they were important.
Everyone has such great qualification and everyone's personal experiences vary so widely that I can imagine it will be difficult to try and figure out what they're looking for exactly. It's still nice to know what you're up against though! Best of luck to everyone while we wait this out!! I don't know about you guys, but even if I don't get in, I have been so grateful to have people that can understand the wait. Friends and family have been supportive, but there's nothing like someone else who REALLY knows! Thanks guys!!
Hi everyone! I'm also waiting to hear back :)For those who applied to both ABSN and ELMSN do you have a preference for either program? Or just hoping to get into either one?
Can the people who apply for both get selected for both programs? I applied ABSN only, so I don't know how it works. I kinda hope that they would select a candidate for only one program and not both, to increase the number of people getting selected.
Edit: okay now that I think about it, the same amount of people would get in either way, it would just be accepting people off the waitlist.
The ELMSN candidates seem to be getting IT emails. Last year, the students who were accepted into the program got these emails just before they got their acceptance letters. I'm hoping they start hearing back with acceptances later today, or maybe tomorrow. That would keep us on track for acceptance/wait list notifications for next week! Hang in there guys! It's coming!

I know from the past cohort threads that the ELMSN candidates are given a window of time to accept their spot in the program. I can't remember exactly what it is, but I want to say between 3-7 days? So that may be part of the reason why they stagger the acceptances. They want to see who's going to take a spot in the ELMSN cohort so they know how many ABSN seats are available. But I don't know that for sure... just piecing it together from previous threads.

Thank you for the info, that totally makes sense! I do remember someone being accepted to both then choosing ABSN due to the length of the program. I only applied to ELMSN but just curious about everyone else!
Goodluck guys seems like you will all hear back soon!!!

Have you checked your email today? Some of the ELMSN candidates seem to be getting IT emails telling them how to change their password. These preceded the acceptances last year...
