Samuel Merritt ABSN Fall 2014

Published

Hello everyone! I didn't see a thread started for the SMU ABSN program Fall 2014 yet. I'm turning in my application tomorrow and I'm getting really nervous. Just wanted to see who else is applying and what were everyone's stats.

Stats:

Science GPA: 3.6

Last 60 GPA: 3.2

TEAS V Overall: 73.5%

Good luck to everyone!

opx322,

I believe Science GPA doesn't include patho and pharm but you must have the classes done before Fall 2014. I also think that SMU looks at your overall application. GPA, TEAS, personal statements, letter of recommendations, and work/volunteer experience. Hope this helps!

Thanks rinaa, that's what I thought.

I'm wondering how they'll calculate my last 60 since I'm taking those two classes in the summer. I'm hoping I don't get a 0 GPA for both classes since my GPA would take a huge hit.

No, they wouldn't account for classes in progress for your last 60.

Its the GPA of the last 60 units you have COMPLETED.

@lena05 did you pay for another teas score for the absn program or did you use the one from your elmsn application?

I used the same one for both. I didn't even think that it might not be okay, haha, just figured it's the same test with the same score!

Hello,

I was looking for a thread like this. I'm currently waiting for reply, but they emailed me that my application is sent to nursing department. I don't expect another answer for a few more weeks.

Do they ask for security deposit later, or we just sent it to them?

My Stats are:

Last 60 GPA: 3.71

Core Sciences: 3.69

Chem: 4.0

Cum GPA: 3.26

Teas V: 93.3%

BA Degree in Architecture Studies

18-months CNA experience and Volunteer at American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity

Foreign Language

Think I have a chance?

I haven't been emailed saying that my application has been sent to the nursing department yet, the time line stated April for when they would be sent for review.

joe84u2004- I think you have an excellent chance! In addition the qualitative aspects of your application (work experience, writing samples, language, etc.) they also look at 5 stats.

1) Last 60 semester or 90 quarter units. As such, make sure you calculate your gpa in one format with quarter units=1.5x semester units.

2) Average science GPA. There's usually ambiguity on what is considered "science", but these are the sciences you specifically put in on the application. So for instance, pharm or o. chem would not be part of this gpa.

3) Teas composite score

4) Teas Math

5) Teas reading score

As for the security deposit, they will ask for it if you get in. Best of luck to you!

I hope so. Good luck to you. I'm kind of worried about the transcripts. I remember SMU only was asking for unofficial versions when doing the electronic application. But, it worries me if we needed the official ATI and paper copies by some deadline. Very worried! I havn't sent out official transcripts, but only ATI!

joe84u2004 - From what I saw, they stated in multiple places that you only need to send them the official college transcripts once you are accepted. The only official transcript needed along with the application was the ATI TEAS one. So don't be too worried :)

Anyone else receive an e-mail that their application has been sent along to the nursing department? I haven't yet, and their timeline states it in April, but apparently some people have already received that notification? Hm.

I also recieved an email about my application being forwarded to the faculty, but as usual, they seem to do everything in waves and not all at the same time.

Just got an email within the past hour. Sounds like the staff is learning and asking that people not to constantly email them asking for updates until may 9. Hahah.

Haha looks like I got too excited and happened to ask the night before they sent out the next batch of e-mails. I got the e-mail today too! :p
