Has anyone applied to Samford University Online FNP Fall 2016 Program? Can you share what you have heard about the program, first semester course work load (3 advance courses), and overall input, guidance, and or advice you have been given in order to successfully complete the program.

If you already graduated from Samford Online FNP, tell us about your overall experience, student loans opportunities, total cost of the program, graduation rate as per your own class experience, preparation for Board Exam, and if you found "entry level FNP career opportunity" or not after graduation.

Thank you for your responses, input, and guidance.

Note: You may select multiple choices (if applicable) in the attached "Poll".

I think it's under "accept award"? I have a hold d/t "unusual enrollment history" so I can't accept yet. I called and its from my graduating with my ADN 5/15, BSN 5/16, and now enrollment in grad school-- they said it wasn't an issue, just needed my final transcript from UA, which I ordered last week.

And yes, I got my acceptance email and then another email with my SUid in the next day or two. I officially accepted and paid my deposit on 5/13... The deadline to accept or decline was 5/13 with the deposit being due by 5/15. So for y'all who are wait listed, I'm sure you'll hear something soon because now they'll know what spaces are available. Good luck!

Hope so too. Good luck

Thanks Nursing nerd1

Your opinions and inputs are always appreciated! When I started this forum / trend, I wanted for all of us to share the process in order to help ourselves and others along the way, even long after we are "all accepted into the program". On this note, what have you heard, personally know, and or have an opinion thereof, with regards to the pros and cons of having either no RN experience vs. having years of RN experience when transitioning to FNP. We all know that as FNP's we will be doing "medical diagnosis / differentials" rather than "nursing diagnosis", aside from prescribing meds and learning patho, pharm, and assessment to a higher level. I know of various FNP students that have 0-1 year of RN clinical experience and are assimilating their respective FNP programs very well, earning B+ and A's, and even passing their National Exam on the first tried. I also know of various RN's with over 3-5 years experience that are having difficulties making the transition. What is your take on this?

Those of you that were wait listed how were you informed of this? email or mail? I was told last week they have not reviewed my application yet and I should hear something this week. however that does not make sense if people have already been wait listed!?

The email said that they reviewed my application.

When did you get the email?

Sorry. I am on my phone typing a response. I honestly think it depends on the person. Having experience can be beneficial if you are great with applying it to your classes and clinicals. I also believe it can be beneficial that a person has not been out of school long entering a FNP program because the wide range of material from nursing school may be fresh on the brain. I know people who have succeeded from both spectrums!! Well wishes to everyone :)

Congratulations to those who have been accepted to Samford to start in the fall! I applied and received notice a few weeks ago that I was waitlisted. I've had my ASN since 2005 and have experience in various settings. I honestly didn't think I'd even be considered since my BSN is still in progress. I graduate the first week of August. I currently have a 3.9 GPA in my Bachelor program, but my GPA prior to the BSN program is much lower. I think that, along with the fact that I don't have my BSN in-hand is why I was waitlisted.

I know schools have legitimate waiting lists and offer spots to applicants as they come available, but I also have read that some schools will waitlist applicants as a nicer way of saying "thanks, but no thanks". I'm not at all saying this is the case with Samford. I've been in contact with the program advisor since my waitlisted status and she has suggested that I apply for the BSN-DNP program starting in the spring. I have taken that suggestion to mean that I won't be offered a spot this fall. The BSN-DNP is a 3 year program at Samford (not bad if you really think about it), but a Master's is not awarded at completion- just the DNP. I'm still considering my options. Good luck to all of you who have been waitlisted and also to those who have been accepted!

Breaking News! Got accepted into the program. Good things come to those who wait, sacrifice, and have faith! Nothing is easy in this lifetime, we must earn it. Congratulations to all that have been accepted. Don't forget why we are here, as we continue to share our experiences and provide great input during this process!
