Has anyone applied to Samford University Online FNP Fall 2016 Program? Can you share what you have heard about the program, first semester course work load (3 advance courses), and overall input, guidance, and or advice you have been given in order to successfully complete the program.
If you already graduated from Samford Online FNP, tell us about your overall experience, student loans opportunities, total cost of the program, graduation rate as per your own class experience, preparation for Board Exam, and if you found "entry level FNP career opportunity" or not after graduation.
Thank you for your responses, input, and guidance.
Note: You may select multiple choices (if applicable) in the attached "Poll".
Hello Alisha RN! Thus far based on the responses in this forum, the ones that have been accepted have been notify by email. Have you asked Samford School of Nursing via Email, not by phone, the reason why you were placed on a waiting list? It must be done in writing, since you may need to forward the same through the chain of command of the program for clarification and or help with a possible reconsideration. If you were told by phone to apply to the BSN-DNP, you should have requested in writing the reason why you should apply to the BSN-DNP program. When it comes to making decisions, one must have sound information in writing, this way you can either move forward with another program once you obtain your BSN degree in August (a key requirement) that you must have in order to apply for the MSN-FNP program by the application due date. Therefore, it is my humble opinion that you were likely not accepted since you did not fulfill this key requirement (BSN degree) and if they are going to considered you, extend for you the deadline, and provide you with a spot in the MSN-FNP program, then you should have this in writing. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info, TruthRN. In the admission decision email that I received, the reason that was given was, "there were many more qualified candidates than we are able to admit."
Like you said, I was probably not offered a spot because my BSN degree won't be complete until the first week of August. However, I was told that I could still apply as long as the degree was conferred by the first day of classes at and as long as I sent updated transcripts showing BSN completion. This, of course, does not guarantee admission, but I applied with the hopes that my program GPA (3.9) would be enough to convince the admission committe that I am a student capable of maintaining that GPA for another three months when I'm awarded the BSN.
I received an email from the program advisor that said something to the effect of, "If you are not moved off the waiting list, I would encourage you to apply to the BSN-DNP January cohort." When I replied (in writing) asking when I would know if I would be offered a spot from the waiting list, she replied (in writing) that notifications could come as late as the day before classes start but that there was no guarantee and that I should just apply to the BSN-DNP just in case.
Thanks again for your advice! I think I'll inquire as to why they waitlisted me, even if it's just a way for me to gain insight for the next application cycle.
Sorry I got the names confused when I was responding. Your GPA is very high! If you were told that you could submit the degree and transcripts before the first day of class, then you need to know about the waiting list. Ask them in writing if they have reached the maximum allowed number of students? That could be the only reason why you were placed on a waiting list. I was under the impression that this is the last class for MSN-FNP, since in Jan 2017 they start the DNP program. Has anyone heard this? Please provide input and feedback!

You are right: this is the last semester that they will be offering a five semester schema for the FNP. Starting January 2017, they will offer the BSN-DNP (no MSN awarded) in 9 semesters. They will continue offering the MSN/FNP each fall, but it will be a seven semester plan of study instead of five.
Oh boy! This new requirement by the AACN is nationwide, right?
I think the DNP is more of a recommendation at this point. To my knowledge, there are currently no state boards that require a nurse practitioner to have a DNP in order to practice. Until that happens, I think most universities will continue to offer MSN programs with NP concentrations.
I am looking at Samford as well, but I'm a little hesitant to even apply because of the first semester courseload, taking patho, physical assessment, and pharmacology all at the same time. Plus, clinicals begin in the 2nd semester, and from what I've heard, some clinical sites are booked a year in advance. Does that give the students time to book their clinical sites? I know most of you who are responding to this thread have not started the program yet, but have you heard from previous students regarding these issues? I wish we could put these types of posts in the practicing NP forum.

Someone on a thread said they have a list for clinical sites. I am unsure though. I want to know a little more about the first semester as well. I wonder if we will see in our packets that come in June.
:)
Hey has anybody that was waitlisted heard any more news? I was waitlisted 2 weeks ago, and have sent several emails to admission with no response. Just curious.
I was waitlisted and have not heard anything more. The program advisor suggested I apply to the BSN-DNP program starting in January since there's no guarantee that I will be offered a spot for the fall FNP program. Have you tried emailing the program advisor instead of the admissions office?

Awesome news! When did you find out? Was it by email or phone call?
I see you're from Florida. Me too! I moved to Georgia 2.5 years ago, but I'm from Tampa and also lived in Miami for a short time.
Good luck in Samford's FNP program! :)
