Salisbury ABSN Fall 2015

Published

Hello all!

I was wondering if anyone has applied to Salisbury University for the Accelerated 2nd Bachelor's program...has anyone heard any news? I was given an acceptance letter last month, which sounds super early compared to past threads where people got accepted in Feb and March.

Anyone out there???? :)

Awesome congrats! I need a grant lol! Was it thru the state?

Yep it was through the state!

Yea I'm still tryna figure out this financial aid stuff myself...ugh. I tried to apply to Coppin but didn't have the required pre reqs so that was out of the picture. I am sure you will get in. That's a strong program albeit a little unorganized. And I think it's the most affordable.

I actually went ahead and withdrew my application from Coppin State. In all honesty, I had no real desire to go there and I only applied there because the application was free! Their program is actually quite disorganized and I went back 5 years and discovered that they were on the verge of losing their approval by the MDBON because their NCLEX pass rates were below the minimum standard for MD. Last year it was 67.14%, so unless they improve their number, then their approval will be threatened once more. I don't wanna waste time and tuition (even though it is the cheapest BSN program in MD) on a school with highly fluctuating pass rates!

Besides that, I had my interview for UMD and I think it went really really really well! I'm feeling confident about it because the entire interview was a great experience plus I got an extra boost of confidence when I got an acceptance letter from Georgetown!

Yes I have! Salisbury was the only in state school I applied to. How much was the deposit for the nursing program?

Aw good luck! It'll be an adventure!

Hey I totally understand that. They are really disorganized, which is a shame because so many great nurses have come from that school.

I am sure you'll get the CNL! And congrats on Georgetown! Is that your second choice after UMSON? And I saw the grant you were talking about--I got an email saying they ran out of funds for me lol.

The deposit is $300. However, I had to crunch some numbers and I realized I could not afford to do it. They gave 12.5k in loans for the year. This would cover tuition and fees, but I would be STRUGGLING to live off the remaining, say 4500$ and my savings. They are only 3 semesters which I was psyched about, but it's not gonna work out financially. I won't find out about the other scholarships I'm applying to until summer and early September, so I couldn't make a decision based off that either. Sucks because I really liked the program (the area...not so much :p).

Have you gotten any acceptances elsewhere?

Make a login for MDCAPS you can find scholarships specifically related to the school you would like to attend.

So far I have gotten two rejection letters, but I only applied to those schools on a chance of luck. I really didn't think I would get in. How much is the total cost? Did you consider any other programs? You might be able to find an out of state school that offers more financial aid and is generally cheaper.

Yea that's the only bad thing I've heard about Salisbury and how the school is not very diverse.

I GOT INTO UMD!!! So this means I'm officially going to take myself off the waiting list for Salisbury. Good Luck to you all!!

I have an MD CAPS login but I only saw state scholarships, not school-specific ones. Where can I find those?

Aw I understand. Hopefully something will come in for you very soon. :) Idk how much the entire program is but UMSON or Towson will be more affordable for me because I can live at home. I purposely didn't apply out of state because in state tuition is cheaper...4k a semester! I wouldn't be able to beat that unless I did an ADN program. Overall without scholarships, I can look at 20k in debt, which isn't desirable but isn't bad. For family reasons I also wanted to stay in state for school. I will look for out of state opps once I graduate :)

So yea, Salisbury doesn't look like it will work out.

Oh I don't know if there are scholarships specifically available for Salisbury, but when I was going through the questions it asked me what school I wanted the scholarship for, so I thought it might give scholarships specifically for that program. Sorry If I got your hopes up :/

I hope so! If not I'll just work until spring semester and apply to other schools. Oh my gosh I didn't realize that Salisbury was only that much. Once you become a nurse your loans won't seem as big! Where are you graduating from?.. if you don't mind me asking. Aw I hope you find something that fits exactly what you want in a program.
