Anyone applying to the New accelerated nursing program at Salem state this upcoming may?
Hi all,I also applied to this program, in addition to three Direct-Entry MSN Programs (NEU, MGH and Regis). Ultimately, I want to become a NP. I applied to this program last minute because completion of this program, followed by application to an MSN program, could ultimately save me about $40,000. The DEN Programs are extremely expensive. Does anybody else have a similar goal? I'm wondering if completion of an accelerated BSN program could at all hinder entrance to an MSN program?
Thoughts?
Thanks!
I'm actually doing the same exact thing and applied to all the same schools as you. I spoke to NPs at my mom's job which is a family medicine clinic and they told me getting an RN first is a waste of time and money. They are all for the direct entry programs. They also said that getting into the MSN program once you're an RN is harder than getting into the direct entry program. Idk how true all of this is, but I have a friend who was an RN and is now at Regis doing the MSN program to become an NP. I'm going to reach out to her this week and hear her opinion on the whole situation. I'll update you on that later. I really just applied to SSU just as a "back up" in case I don't get into any direct entry programs this year.
Hi all! I'm also working on becoming an NP like some of you! I applied to the DEN program at NEU (accepted) and Simmons (waiting), but applies to SSU as a back up but also because I like the idea of saving a little bit of money but have no idea what I will do if I get in. Anyone know about SSU's reputation when it comes to nursing?
Also, not to freak you all out, but I spoke to someone yesterday (2/17/16) and he said decisions for the ABSN will be posted by the end of today! May the odds be ever in our favor LOL

I work for a Partners Hospital in Boston and Salem State has great reputation with them, that's the reason I applied and hope to get accepted and save much $$ as well.

LOL oh lordy. I'm feeling nauseous!
I CANT DEAL. I called. again. I'm using my really nice voice because I don't want to be annoying. They said 70% chance that all decisions will posted by the end of today, but definitely by Friday. BIG SIGH!. I just want to know!!
Thanks for keeping us updated HAPPYstudent17! Good luck :) Did you apply anywhere else?
I did, I applied to Northeastern's DE FNP track and Simmons DE program. Still waiting to hear from Simmons, but was accepted into Northeastern. Thinking about prices and good clinical sites makes trying to chose one such a challenge. Such a difficult decision!Where did you apply?
I think you have a good shot at receiving an acceptance at Salem State if you've been accepted to NEU's DE FNP track. I was accepted to Seton Hall's direct-masters CNL program and an Accelerated BSN program in VA. I also applied to UMass Amherst. I'm on the same track as everyone else.. debating whether to get my RN licenses then apply to a NP program or just do the direct-masters program (and down the road apply to the post-certificate NP program). I've been reading other threads and it seems harder to apply to NP programs as an RN but I mean, I can't imagine being in debt from student loans for so long. lol
