Hello! So far, I've had a positive experience with SSU--we had orientation this past weekend and everyone has been really nice and helpful. My undergrad GPA was 3.80 and my prereqs GPA was like 3.5ish. Put a lot of effort into your essay, its what will make you stand out the most. This year they had 250+ applicants and accepted 24.

It IS very stressful, but its such a wonderful problem to have! I have been going back and forth between family care or oncology, which is the main reason why I declined my spot at Northeastern (Still haven't heard from Simmons), I don't want to commit to a specialty so early in the game. I know nursing the perfect field for me, but I am all about planning and leaving space to readjust because at the end of the day, we haven't gone to nursing school yet, and what if we fall in love with something else not offered within the DEN program? That is why I went with Salem State, I just want to focus on becoming a registered nurse first, discover what my strengths a nurse, and then think about grad school. I know time is obviously important and when I was struggling to make my decision that's what was stressing me out the most. But then I stopped focusing on it and that about what would make me a stronger nurse in the long run. Let me know what you end up deciding on, you will be great no matter where you go!

I think im going to go the Accelerated BSN route, planning to apply for programs right when this program is done since most apps are due in March for a fall start. I like the idea of being able to go through the whole nursing program to either reinforce and realize if I do or don't want to go the FNP route, but I also love the idea of being able to work as an RN (even if its just for a few months) before starting grad school. I really love Umass Boston's FNP program, especially because they structure it in a way that their students are able to work as RN's, which is vital experience to be the best NP's we can be in the future. Plus I think this will be the most economically responsible option for me! What are you thinking of doing?

Hi! I haven't started nursing school yet, but I just got accepted into a DE FNP program as well as an Accelerated BSN. I would say, based on my interview for the DE program and talking to admissions people, they take everything into consideration. Working as a CNA will help tremendously, because not only will it show that you know what you are getting yourself into and already understand that nursing is for you, but will show you are ready to deal with patients--the dean at DE program told me she LOVED getting applicants with CNA background because they are ready to jump into clinicals, focus on nursing, and don't waste time worrying about how to touch a patient. It will also help you make connections, it helps to have an experienced nurse write you a recommendation letter saying how great she/he thinks will be at nursing. =) Also really invest time in crafting a strong essay, every line counts and this is where you can show them who you are and what you bring to the program and where you prove they are the lucky ones to have you not the other way around. Also, as a CNA you will have patients who will challenge you, make you grow, change you, and start molding you into who you will be as a nurse--and it never hurts to write about them in that essay either. I don't think that has much to do with the accepting process, I'm still taking one of the prereqs which is fine as long as the class is done before the program begins. It was just a very competitive process, I spoke to someone at admissions yesterday and she said there were over 250 applicants and only 25 were admitted.

I have am outstanding prereq too (I'm still taking Micro biology). Did you only apply to two programs? UMB has a really good program, Im hoping to go there for grad school. Good luck, I hope they call you!

I'm sorry you didn't get in, your credentials were solid and that is surprising. Did you have a really strong essay? My GPA were similar to yours but backwards, I have a 3.8 for undergrad and a 3.3 for my science prereqs. Did you apply to any other programs?

Has anyone made up their mind about accepting a spot at SSU? I've heard mixed reviews about whether its best to get an ABSN first and then MSN, but I like being able to get RN experience before starting an NP program. I've spoken to a couple of nurses and they have also mentioned the increased difficulty in getting an NP job w/o RN experience. Thoughts anyone?

You are not alone. I spoke to someone last night and they said if we don't hear by the end of today (Thursday) to call tomorrow and they will let us know over the phone.

I know, I was doing the math for all three schools today and the prices for NEU and Simmons are unbelievable. Its such a difficult choice to make. I honestly don't know which would be more difficult, but I guess it all depends on how well we do in nursing school and the quality of our grades. I have zero idea about what I will do!

I did, I applied to Northeastern's DE FNP track and Simmons DE program. Still waiting to hear from Simmons, but was accepted into Northeastern. Thinking about prices and good clinical sites makes trying to chose one such a challenge. Such a difficult decision! Where did you apply?
