So it looks as though we don't have a thread going as of yet for the Sac State Spring 2014 Nursing application period, so lets get one going.
My name is Sarah and I am a current Sac State student. This is my first semester at sac state as I just transferred over from Sierra College in Rocklin. I am currently in Micro, but all other pre and co reqs done. Looking at 87 points if I don't get the 3 additional for optional criteria that I submitted for. I just submitted my application today, so now the wait begins.
At the group advising on Sept. 20th Teri said the point cutoff for fall 2013 was about 72, but that it was high because so many second Bachelors and transfer students were waiting for an open application period. She hoped it wouldn't be as high this time but said its a gamble because again it is open to everyone. Lets hope it's back down below 70!
I also went to the group advising meeting on the 20th. -------------------- said that the application period will most likely still be on hiatus because Spring had previously been closed to transfers and second bachelors. I didn't know that the cutoff was 72 for Fall! Hopefully it drops back down otherwise I won't make the cut off. I was only able to get 69 points after retaking the TEAS and I have volunteer work at the hospital that may take me to 72 points, but only if they accept it.
------------ didn't mention the 72 at the actual meeting, but a few of us stayed and chatted with her until about 6 pm that night and that's when she told us about it being around that. It's interesting because from what I gathered from the meeting was that its up in the air for the second bachelors applicants but the website says its open to them. Did you get the same impression at the meeting that it was in limbo mgnursing? Kind of like nursing is saying go ahead and apply but the university can decide not to accept them since spring isn't open to second bachelors for the general university. Who knows. Guess we will all find out in November. Also, I'm sure they will take your volunteer work. ------------- seemed very lienient about it.
Thanks for all the information tsk! I'm sure everyone appreciates it i know i do. That sounds scary for second bachelors hopefuls. Anyone that has any updates be sure to share! Is the acceptance day a set day or is it still "late November" (according to nursing website)? Good luck to everyone again!
Still late November. The goal is to have them out before spring semester registration begins. And yes! Please post all updates! Our application period seems to be a lot more quiet than those in the past. These boards are notmally full of hopeful applicants posting, but there's only a few of us so far this time around.
Sac state is my one and only. BSN has always been my goal and I won't relocate because one of my children is in high school so I don't want to move her. SJSU is an awesome school. Most of my family has graduated from there. I have an uncle that is a professor and an aunt that works with the alumni organization organizing all of their events. If I was willing to relocate, SJSU would be on top of my list.
I felt the same way as you did tsklaner. Especially when she discussed second bachelors having to apply to the university after they have already been accepted to the Nursing program. It all seemed very unsure... but then again its seems like there are a lot of things in limbo this application period.
Hey mmmcoffay! Are you giving up your seat at SMU also?
I've always been a little back and forth on the SMU program because I have three kids, they're ages 3-9 and I was afraid I just couldn't keep things together at home while taking on an accelerated program. But my husband had been working remotely from home for a long time and was here to help pick up kids from school and stuff so I thought we could make it work. But in between applying to SMU and being accepted my husband took a job in the BA and is now commuting back and forth. So, unless I hire a full time nanny (that I wouldn't be able to afford because, $65000 for nursing school) there's just no way. I'm pretty bummed, I really felt like that program was a good fit for me and though I knew it would be a hellish year, it's just one year. So I'm applying to Sac even though I know my chances are low due to an ancient bad stats grade and not as good as I could have done TEAS score, and I'm also applying to ARC. Though I really would rather do a BSN if I'm going to put in the time. I'll see, if I don't get in this time around I'll retake the TEAS with more time to study and apply everywhere again for fall. Good luck to you! Hopefully I'll see you around Sac State!

I applied for Spring 2014 with 70 pts. I am going to be a transfer student if I get in. The lowest cutoff so far is 62 points, so hopefully we are all in good standing.
