Sacramento ELMSN/ABSN...Anyone applying?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi everyone,

I am getting ready to send in my application for both programs the deadline is July 1st for fall 2007. Is anyone else applying to these programs? I am curious as to any information you may have heard regarding competitive gpa's, number of applicants, what they want in the personal statement etc., I have decent grades, six years experience as a paramedic and I completed the first semester of a JC nursing program with a 3.00 six years ago. I'm really nervous about the application procedure especially the essay. Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated...

I think SMC-Sac is starting to make phone calls! I got a call this afternoon and I got into ABSN. :biggringi I'm just happy i got into one of the programs I applied for. My first choice is ELMSN-FNP, but Liza said they aren't done interviewing yet. Sounded like there were still some interviews this week for ELMSN-FNP. And, she said next week they may be contacting people for elmsn-fnp. Good luck to everyone waiting!!!

CONGRATULATIONS! :thankya: Take a bow! See you in January!

I got my call this afternoon too...I got into the ABSN program for Sac!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance::monkeydance:

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of my chest!

I was told by a 07 ELMSN student that you should always make copies of everything you send into the administration building and I learned first hand why. I turned in my app before the deadline only to find out it was lost (but the admission counselor was really helpful in assuring me that everything will be fine). I didn't even think I had a decent shot at making the cut anyways because of my below average grades. So last week on a monday I get a call for an interview for Friday and I found out I got in that very same day as an early acceptance. It was one of the best feelings in the world when I got that phone call. Samuel Merritt truly looks at everything so my word of advice to any future or current potential students is to not lose hope because if my dumb a$$ can do it, anybody can. Just write a good statement, be confident in your interview and pick your recommendation letters wisely.

btw..has anyone noticed that in calling the school, the counselor added the fact that they are still taking in applications? CRAAAZY

Thanks Volleylex!! :biere:

And congrats pug!!

I completely agree it's a load of ones shoulders. I'm still hoping for :uhoh3: ELMSN-FNP, but I'm happy irregardless.

illsince: yeah, i was in shock to hear that she told me that they were doing interviews still. I remember the first batch interview they only told us only around 22 people applied for ELMSN-CM, which is probably why they needed a larger pool. And, i believe they said not as many elmsn-fnp applied this year as in comparison to the previous year. I think they said the most applications they received were ABSN, but apparently, I guess it wasn't enough.

Yeah, I totally agree with you about them looking at the entire package. I retook classes that I had taken years ago, which helped boost my grades. And, most definitely work a lot on your goal statement. My TEAS score was decent but it wasn't something to bow down too..hehe. It's definitely not all about grades.

Congratulations to those of you who got into the Samuel Merritt ELMSN '08 program! I was at the interview on August 9th (I am very late in posting) and am still anxiously waiting to hear from them! I am starting to think I will be waitlisted or maybe rejected:o Please if anyone has any more news I would love to know! Also for those of you who got in already when did they call you (AM/PM)? What did they say?

I am afraid I might miss a call if they call me because I am so busy running after a toddler!

I was at the August 9th interview too!!:pDon't worry yet! I had asked them if it was late october when elmsn-fnp would find out and liza said they should be notifying elmsn-fnp hopefully by next week. SMC-Sac tends to call in the afternoon and they seem to be calling people before they send out the formal acceptance packets. Good luck...I'm sure all of us will be glued to our phones next week!!:uhoh3:

Pug540, Congratulations on your acceptance!!!You must be on Cloud Nine:nuke:

Congratulations to everyone who got in for this Spring 08! We should get together and celebrate/meet (even prior to the student orientation) because I believe both CM (my program) and FNP programs will be taking the same classes together for the first year!

I looked on the Merritt website today and I noticed that in the month of October, admissions is traveling to various colleges around the USA to share info about the school. It reminded me of a conversation earlier today with an ARC pre-nursing student who already had a bachelor's degree. I was surprised that she had never heard of Samuel Merritt and later wasn't too enthused when she asked about the tuition in comparison to the community colleges. I suppose not too many people want to spend the money but to me, the tuition is all relative. We all have different perspectives about money. In the long run, its worth it because I have worked in health care for a while now and know that Samuel Merritt College has an excellent reputation with staff.

Actually, time is also money. This will be her 3rd time applying and 5th time for her friend. I can not imagine waiting that long for an RN program. Our ELMSN programs will allow us to become eligible to take the NCLEX after the first year. Then we will work towards our Masters degree. So to all of you prospective nursing students out there thinking about Samuel Merritt, it just depends on what you want to do! The bottam line is, people need to research and really find out what the differences are between RN, BSN, ABSN, ELMSN CM & ELMSN FNP. There are major differences! Then make your decisions as to where to apply based on what works best for you and your future goals.

P.S. sorry I haven't been able to respond to the personal emails I received. I have been so busy...Congrats again!!

Yippeee..finally got the call that I got into ELMSN-FNP! thanks to all for everyone's posting..it definitely alleviated the pain of waiting these last 2 months (seemed way longer than that!) Congrats to all the entering class of Spring 08! see you in january!! :lol2:

Congrats Wishing! :balloons: Did Liza call you today? I am still hopeful for a spot on the wait list if nothing better.... Did she indicate when they would be sending formal letters out?

Thanks litterbug. Yes, she did call today. I was actually on the waitlist last year because I hadn't finished some of my pre-requisites. When I was waitlisted last year, I just found out by mail, no call. So, it definitely was long year to wait to apply again, but I think everything has a reason.

But, yeah, formal letters will be sent in two weeks she said. And, I will most definitely be giving up my ABSN seat, so I'm sure someone will be happy on the absn waitlist.

Good luck litterbug!!
