Sac State Fall 2013 Applicants

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am about to send in my application to CSU Sacramento for Fall 13 and was wondering if there are any other people in the same predicament. Would love love to hear your experiences as well.

Here is the response I just got (so quick!):

"Thank you for your email! The average API score must be below 5 during the period of attendance. Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions or concerns."

Well I guess that counts me out!

I finally sent my application yesterday..yet I have this nagging feeling that I might have forgotten something. 5 official transcripts, application form, and the healthcare experience form..did I miss anything else? We didn't have to include a self addressed envelope, right?

In any case, eama4444, the postal service workers will help you with the certified mail. You just have to fill out a green form, and probably pay more for postage. It just ensures that you can track your mail. You can also request a signature once the recipient receives the mail, but I didn't think we needed to do that. Besides, I believe you would have to pay more for that. Nonetheless, it's a very painless experience, despite the long lines...

Congratulations for being done with the application process. U didn't forget a copy of your teas score or to pay the 35 dollar app fee right?

I just sent the $35 today, and the TEAS scores a while back. I took the TEAS twice and sent both scores and I am hoping that they will only consider the highest score..

Don't worry, they will only consider the highest.

Wow, just a few months ago I was in the same boat as all of you! I just started the program this Spring and I LOVE it! Good luck to everybody. I was not expecting for the program to be as great as it is. Of course we've only completed 3 weeks, but there are so many things about the program that are excellent. EVERYBODY you will encounter is amazing, from the administrators to the faculty. I can honestly say that every single one of my professors is great at what they do. It is a lot of fun, we have a great support system, and the program appears to be designed very well. We just did the sim lab today for the first time and it was soooo much fun. Good luck everybody!

Thank you for sharing crebs! It is great to hear positive things from a student currently in the program. I hope the program continues to prove as wonderful as you continue and hopefully as we enter it too!

Crebs-I tried to pm you back but your inbox is too full lol. No worries, I just intended to say thank you for your insight and that I will remain positive.

Also, I wanted to see if you can offer me and the others some advice on a different subject. Is the two week "front loading" period really as crazy as I've heard? And secondly, honest opinion, is it manageable to work during the program? I worked the entire time doing prereq's taking up to 17 units. Is the difficulty level of the prereq's equivalent to the nursing curriculum. I understand the experience will be altogether different, but I'm really trying to see if there will be anytime for a job.

Hey guys I dropped off my application in person today!! The drop off location was different from the mailing address of the university, but I did get a nifty chance to visit Sac State for the very first time. It has that small college feel. The student population seems pretty diverse, so I like it. I was also able to get into contact with my foreign language evaluator (he was pretty cool) & did my foreign language interview in the morning. I got an email a few hours later stating "We received your Fall 2013 Supplemental Nursing Application." It was quick!!

crebs that's awesome, glad to hear that. I tried to PM you as well, I was wondering how does the hours for the program look like? Also, how is the student life there? Would you say there would be time to join a club and do extracurriculars? and echoing nurseinthemaking20 too, could you squeeze a job in there somehow? x3

Hey guys I'm more than happy to answer your questions. Sorry about the inbox issue. I thought I cleared it recently. Anyway, the program is way less work than I expected. I am a super over studier and I do things way ahead of time and I'm still finding it very manageable. Having said that, there are many students who are frustrated and feeling crunched. The front loading period goes by pretty quickly and the hardest part is figuring out your schedule, but it's so doable. Just show up every day around 7:30 and follow everybody else. lol. I think you have plenty of time for extracurriculars, but I'm not married and have no kids so it may be different for others. The student life is something I don't feel I can comment on well without knowing what you would consider a good student life. I've found it to be good because the people I chatted with on AllNurses.com and I got together prior to the first week of school to meet each other and get going. I was lucky to find a group of responsible and studious people who were just excited about the process as I was and am.

I found that the prereqs were much more difficult than what I've experienced in the program thus far, but we have yet to have our first test so I'm sure I may feel differently after that. One thing I can say that's much easier about these classes versus the prereqs is that class now is so much fun because it's interactive, and we get to put textbook knowledge into practice and do fun stuff with each other and the mannequins. Plus, the staff is really really great. Our professors are very engaging and passionate, and I don't even dread waking up early anymore. Class starts at 8 most days, and 6:15 other days. It's great though, and I'm shocked that I can say that about waking up early!

Crebs- thanks so much for your insight. It makes me that much more excited. But I guess I need to slow down and not get ahead of myself. I still have to wait and see if I get accepted, and something tells me this semester is going to have a very competitive applicant pool and I don't want to get my hopes up.
