Sac State Fall 2013 Applicants

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am about to send in my application to CSU Sacramento for Fall 13 and was wondering if there are any other people in the same predicament. Would love love to hear your experiences as well.

Wow, they really went that far into the waitlist last fall? For last spring, I think I remember the website saying the last alternate selected was 8 or 9.

For the immunizations, health insurance, and car insurance: we only need to get that done once we hear back about being admitted right? I don't think I have access to those deadlines and checklists because I'm a second bachelor's applicant, so I didn't submit a university application with Sacramento State.

Don't be too stressed over the deadlines for immunization, etc. yet - I'm sure the suspense of waiting on admissions decisions is killing you guys enough.

When you guys get your admissions decisions, they'll also send directions on signing up for the Magnus Immunization Tracker on Certified Profile, where you upload PDF's of all your documents that prove you got your immunizations, drug test, insurance, etc. You pay for your account annually, so just a heads up! Getting your immunizations in order at a leisurely pace is probably a good idea too, but don't stress over it.

(And if you're trying to get on top of everything anyway - if you're not yet Sac State students and can't take advantage of the prices for everything at the Well, the Wellness Mart off of Watt has pretty fair prices for the immunizations you might need.)

Anyone receive the "Supplemental Health Science Application" today? Are we supposed to fill this out too? It also says we need to send transcripts to the Admission and Outreach Office? Are these transcripts seperate from the transcripts we already sent to Admissions/Records and the Nursing Department?

I got the email too but I think that you don't need to fill it out since we applied to the nursing program, and not the health science program. It said that only those who have been admitted to the university can apply to this program, so maybe this email was sent out to admitted students. Plus we sent in our transcripts to the admission office already so we should be okay. :)

rafeia- thanks

Your immunizations are important to take care of now. Especially the ones that require a series. I wouldn't want to be at the hospital unimmunized! Some people from this semester had a hard time getting health insurance so if I were you guys I'd start at least looking for plans. No matter which school you go to, these things will be required. Don't put it off.

People can have very different experiences with getting all the requirements done - I personally was a wait list candidate and had 2 weeks less than everyone else in my cohort to get everything done while trying to move in a rush from Daly City to Sacramento, all during the Christmas season, but somehow didn't feel too terribly crunched for time. I thought it would be helpful to go bullet-by-bullet through the requirements just to share my experience. :)

TB Skin Test (2 Step): Fairly simple and cheap to get done

Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR): You probably have this vaccine series from your childhood, so if you or your family have saved your immunization records, that is a huge help.

Hepatitis B: Same as above

Tetorifice, Diphtheria & Pertussis (Tdap): Easily accessible if you don't already have one on file, but slightly more pricey

Annual Flu Shot : Easily accessible, possibly free depending on your student status

Varicella (Chicken Pox): Positive Titer saves a lot of time, so try that first before trying to get the vaccine series, because it can get pricey.

CPR Certification: Personally the biggest headache for me because since I was called from the wait list, I had to try and get into a class fairly last minute.

Car Insurance :

Health Insurance: If you're currently uninsured, try going through the CSUS Healthlink page, or if you can already get a membership in California Nursing Students Organization (CNSA), their PPO health plan offered through United Health is pretty feasible financially.

Hello all! I know there were a bunch of posts about having children while in the program. I am a first semester and I personally have four children ages 3, 5, 7 and 9. I also have a very supportive husband and family. What it comes down to is that as a person and as a family, you can do anything for a semester at a time. In my particular clinical group, three of us are married with children. It's more common than you would think. You just have to realize that your house may not be spotless and you may feel like a horrible parent but there is no feeling in the world like watching your nine year old daughter proudly tell her friends that her mom is going to be a nurse. It makes it all worth it! Think of the amazing example that you are setting for your children. Anyway, I hope this helps! Good luck and I hope to see you next semester!

Jb1979: thank you for your words of encouragement! I have three boys ages 11 months, 5 and 8. I am struggling with the fact my kiddos will suffer while I am in school. At the same time, this is something I really want to do. I too have a supportive husband and family so I know although it will be challenging, I will get through it! Hopefully I will get in and then I will go from there ha ha.

I hope you are doing well in the program! Take care! ;-)

Hello Everyone-

Does anybody on this forum know why the Accelerated Second Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ASBSN) program has been suspended?

I was all set to send in my application (and $75) when I saw on the website that the Spring Cohort was "canceled". What's up with that?

Good luck to everyone, it sounds like a great program and you're all motivated to get the most out of it...
