Rutgers RN-BSN

U.S.A. New Jersey

Is anyone in this program? How hard is it to get into? Anything else you care to share about it?

Are all your classes with other RNs in the same program?

Is it online?

I've been to Rutgers website but would love to get an "inside scoop" from someone who goes there in this particular program.

Thank you for your info.. quick question.. were you able to take organic biochemistry and pathophysiology with your upper level nursing classes or did you have to complete them before? Did you take and graduate subsitutes and if so how were they? is the entire program online or do you have to go in at any point? I have most of the pre-reqs except for those 2 and plan to do full time.

There is no requirement to take your prerequisite chemistries before taking the the upper level nursing courses. I took a substitution for Spanish for the healthcare worker because the course was full. I took an online gender, race, and art course instead. It was honestly way more work than I was expecting. I feel that the in-class courses are easier and less demanding than online classes.

The program is a hybrid. Most classes you meet 2 times in person and the rest is online. The clinicals is the only portion that requires weekly meetings. You can usually schedule clinical at your convenience which is great! They realize that the RN to BSN students are a working population so they are great with scheduling the courses.

Make sure you don't take too many courses off site because you'll need 30 credits at Rutgers and the program is less than 30 credits. You won't want to find yourself taking random classes just to graduate!

Thanks ArmyTwinRN for the information. is it true that you have to pay $100 for online support for very course you take online for the RN-BSN program?

It's true but I think most traditional schools charge for lab fees and technology fees.

Thanks for the info. What is your general view of the program? I got admitted into the program for this Fall but I'm thinking on applying again at Kean University since its not an online program like Rutgers. What would you advice? Thanks

Rutgers isn't strictly an online program either. It's hybrid and requires clinicals and class meetings which works well with my full-time job. I much prefer sitting in the classroom compared to all online programs. I personally wanted to attend a traditional university because of the prestige associated with them and also because it was always my intention to graduate from a state university. Moving around in the military made it an obstacle to get accepted immediately into nursing programs because I wasn't a 'native' student and most schools prefer to accept 'their own'.

My general overview of the program is that it's pretty good. I'm at the camden campus so I'm not sure how the other locations are. There is always room for improvement but I'm very satisfied. Our professors are great and are very flexible with RN to BSN students. The program tends to cater to the working RN which I love.

I have intentions of going to grad school soon so an online program wasn't optimal in my eyes. I'm currently looking at Villanova's CRNA program and they won't accept applicants who graduated from "online BSN programs" after a certain year. I think in order to ensure high educational standards most graduate programs are going to be moving in this direction.

Thank you so much for the information. Good luck with everything.

I know I'm the one who started this thread a while ago, but I still haven't applied!

so my main question now is ----- is it very competitive and hard to get into? I don't want to waste my time/money if I don't have a shot at getting in. Thanks so much!

Are you already an RN? If so, it's not hard at all. As long as you meet the basic requirements

I was told it was pretty easy while I was still in nursing school by a Rutgers RN to BSN coordinator... but I was still nervous...submitted X,Y, and Z as I was told and I was in the program a few weeks after completing my ADN. Now I only have 1 class left at Rutgers :D!! Go for It! Good Luck!!!

Thanks so much nycNurse2b! My first plan is to get a promotion at work! My job bases nurse level on education (first)...then certifications, and yrs of experience. My next move will be to get my national certification in the OR...CNOR.

I have some pretty big plans after all of this... :p get my Masters/Doctorate depending on what school I get accepted into for anesthesia...just gotta take it one step at a time :D
