Rutgers Accelerated Nursing- Fall 2015 (Newark)

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Wow, seems like no one is applying here or maybe we just have a lot of readers. In any case i hope to apply for the accelerated nursing program for Fall 2015. originally, it was to be Spring 2016 because i haven't finished prereqs but I'm hoping to be done next spring (of 2015) and hoping they extend the deadline. Anyone else?!!

I'm sorry, I'm newbie too. In the facebook group, we have Dana who have been in this program, and she willing to answer any question we have.

I was just able to log into my portal ! Looks like we will have class Tuesday from 8:00-10:50 (Pathophysiology), 12:00-1:50 (Foundations of Nursing Practice), and 2:00-4:50 (Nursing Informatics) so pretty much all day Tuesday. And then Wednesday seems to be a half day, 8:00-11:00 (Culture, Lifestyle, and Health) followed by 11:00-12:50 (Health Assessment). That second Wednesday class is listed as a "course with time conflict" at the bottom of the page I'm looking at, but when I click on the course it says I'm registered for it. I'm guessing it's a conflict just because it doesn't allow for any break between the first class and second class that day.

Ahh I can't create a id, guess I am not in as yet. So only two days of classes or there is more to be added?

Maybe they are still working on it

In the acceptance letter it said they would auto enroll us in classes for the first semester. Does anyone know what the schedule for those class are? Also, people in the program, how was your first semester classes.

Hi! I saw someone posted your schedule in a recent post, so you've got that :) Like jessb75 a few posts up, I'm currently in Level 2 (finals in 3 weeks and then halfway done, woo hoo!).

So as you can see, there are 5 classes.

- Nursing Informatics depends a lot on the teacher. You might end up with a lot of sessions online, or you might have to be in the classroom often. I wouldn't say the material is particular complicated (it's about computing, how electronic records/data are used in healthcare settings, etc.), but it is pretty dry and can get detailed.

- Culture, Lifestyle, and Health also depends a bit on the teacher, since it's not a straight nursing topic. It's kind of a blend of interpersonal communication, developmental psych, multicultural awareness, stuff like that.

- Patho is very detailed. It's more the science of diseases, whereas in Level 2 you'll cover most of the same topics in Adult Health 1 more from the nursing perspective and what you will run into.

- Foundations is the most basic of nursing skills: bed baths, making beds, positioning/moving patients, wound care, med administration, things of that nature. The clinical ties into that course, and that is the one where you spend the first half of the semester doing your clinical in the school lab, then go to the hospital 5 or 6 times.

- Health Assessment teaches you how to do a full, head to toe, physical, system by system. You'll have a lab to practice with your lab/clinical group and an instructor, and you'll be tested at the end of the semester. The lab usually meets once a week for 2 hours, but I know a group last semester met for four hours and did it every other week instead.

If you have any other questions, reach out to any of us here. We're happy to help!

I got my ID today but I don't see a schedule. How long after getting the portal ID did you see a schedule? The schedule may vary slightly for some people I think.

Hey SweetDream, How long was it before you received your ID? Were you able to set up a Net Id without it?

I couldn't set up a net ID without getting the email, even after getting the email, I tried (as if I didn't get the number) by entering only the name and ss number and it didn't work. It took about 3!days. I paid my deposit last Thursday morning and got the ID today (Tuesday) around 4pm.

I was able to see the schedule. Same as mentioned above. I thought it would be a little different for everyone. One more week for orientation!

Hi SweetDream, how did you access to see the course schedule? I can't figure out how. I have a NetID and access to the portal.

I don't know if you can't post on here but it is explained on the group fb

Anyone know the first day of class?
