Rutgers ABSN 2013

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Hey everyone, my name is Nicole and I am hoping to be accepted into the Rutgers accelerated nursing program that begins this May/June. I would love to chat with anyone who is currently in the program or who is applying for entry into the program for 2013.

Here's a little about myself..I graduated from Rutgers in 2010 with a double major in biology and nutrition (3.7 GPA), and then went on to graduate school at UMDNJ where I studied Epidemiology (4.0 GPA). I am really hoping to be accepted into the Rutgers program, but am nervous because they only accept a small cohort of students. I've also applied to Seton Hall's ABSN program which is at Georgian Court, but Rutgers is my 1st choice.

Hi DPchonky,

I just knew from my talk with the Dean about my transcripts. He was pretty straightforward about which I would need.

I was a psych major but unfortunately the Cultural Dimensions is not really replaceable. I only took a 1 credit Nutrition, so I know I need that, and the only communications type class I have taken was Speech, so I need to do the Human Interactive Processes too. I got the impression that both of those Rutgers specific pre-nursing courses, Cultural Dimensions and Human Interactive Processes, are pretty hard to find substitutions for, if you haven't taken the actual course.

It definitely would be good to start studying now, if you have multiple challenges to complete. It will be a BUSY first 5 weeks trying to test out of multiple courses while taking the regular planned schedule as well.

Hi guys!

I have also been accepted into Rutger's program! Is anyone thinking about living on campus? I can't decide if it is worth it or if I should just commute? I guess it depends on which cohort I am but I can't seem to figure that out either! I live in Monmouth County so commuting would not be too much of hassle but I also heard that you switch campuses each semester? Does anyone know more about that? Sorry if any of this is repetitive and I'm excited to meet everyone at orientation!!!

Everyone should've received an email from student services regarding campus placement and orientation by now. See you there!

Hi all,

Congrats Rowan28. I actually live about 10 minutes away from Rutgers-New Brunswick, so I'll be staying home. I know there are lots of different renting options near campus for all kinds of budgets and even in nearby towns in the New Brunswick area, so hope you can find something if you need to move. I haven't heard of the switching campuses every semester and hope that's not the case, but I guess we'll see.

For any of the re-enrollment applicants: were you able to successfully reinstate your Net ID and login? i'm still having trouble with that. Thanks guys.

Hi everyone,

Could I ask where you filled most of your pre-requisite courses? My prior degree is not in a nursing-related field, and I am doing my pre-reqs now. It seems that the pre-reqs for the Rutgers program are a bit more unique than the pre-reqs for other programs in the area, making it a bit challenging to select the most widely-applicable course. Thanks!

Mkt- most community colleges will fulfill 90% of your pre-req's. Use njtransfer.com to see which will transfer. The only course that is specifically offered at Rutgers is Cultural Dimensions which can be challenged.

Rowan-they used to switch campuses but started to split the campuses last year. I am about 30-35 minutes from RU and plan to commute. I unfortunately heard parking is a b***h! It's a 15 minute walk from the nearest RU lot ($80 for summer $200 for year round). I plan to pay for the summer since we'll be on campus 4/7 days a week. But my friend said for the other semesters where you're only on campus 2 days a week they park next to the nursing classrooms and pay by meter, taking a break every 2 hours to refill their quarters. There are also parking garages but they are $20 a day. This information is for NB, I don't know about Newark.

hi all,

I'm so glad that we have received more information on orientation, placement, our start date, etc. Class is right around the corner :)

Rowan28 - Congrats!!

DPchonky - no luck on reinstating my RU net id either. If its still an issue by Monday, I'm going to call and see what's going on. I'll keep you posted.

Also, could someone who has the syllabi send me a copy? I need to take the Cultural Dimensions and Human Interactive Processes exams. My email is [email protected]. Thank you so much!

Nic1118,

I just forwarded you the email I received with the syllabus for Cultural Dimensions. It should be coming from [email protected], let me know if you don't get it and I'll send it again!

Nicole, So sorry it took so long, i replied a while back but lost it when i tried to post. Congrats on being accepted! And congrats to everyone! For the newark bunch, on orientation day some of the students in my cohort will be there to answer your questions and give some tips. Clinicals for newark were in englewood hospital for maternity, med/surg, older adult , summit oaks/bergen regional for psych (that is winter session), and robert wood/children's specialized for pediatrics in new brunswick. i had to challenge cultural dimensions as did a bunch of us. I hope they are going to improve the syllabi/course book/test this year as it left a lot to be desired. It wasn't easy but we got through it, no one was expelled from the program for that reason.

Thanks everyone who responded to my inquiry a little while back and sorry for not responding earlier. I'm also really glad we got some more information on orientation and what not. As far as challenging classs, I'm not sure what I have to challenge yet. For the sake of getting a jump on things, would anyone be able to send me the syllabi for all three classes (everything besides developmental). I want to have as much as possible, as soon as possible. Thanks!

I need to challenge Cultural Demensions and the interpersonal communications course. Could you email me the syllabus for each along with any other info you received regarding challenging the courses, etc. My email is [email protected]

Thank you!
