Hey everyone, my name is Nicole and I am hoping to be accepted into the Rutgers accelerated nursing program that begins this May/June. I would love to chat with anyone who is currently in the program or who is applying for entry into the program for 2013.
Here's a little about myself..I graduated from Rutgers in 2010 with a double major in biology and nutrition (3.7 GPA), and then went on to graduate school at UMDNJ where I studied Epidemiology (4.0 GPA). I am really hoping to be accepted into the Rutgers program, but am nervous because they only accept a small cohort of students. I've also applied to Seton Hall's ABSN program which is at Georgian Court, but Rutgers is my 1st choice.
Hey Littledoe and Dpchonky, you are both very welcome!
Littledoe i will keep you posted on any developments for my meeting. Thus far, it isn't scheduled yet. Maybe we will both be able to go on the same day!
DPchonky - I'm glad that you were able to confirm your acceptance. I'm still am not able to reinstate my net-id, but the help desk told me that within a few days of being officially entered into the computer system (once our offers were "Accepted"), we should be able to reinstate.
Hey nic,
I e-mailed about my acceptance, but haven't heard a reply yet so hope I will get one back soon and it really will be confirmed. My net ID doesn't work either, I called the help desk and they said my name wasn't in the system as re-enrolled yet and to give it a few days as well. Hope it all works out soon. I want to make sure I can get financial aid as soon as possible. Not sure how it works for summer enrollment or if any deadlines are coming up for that. We'll see.
Also, early in the week I emailed one of the deans and he said we should be receiving a letter sonn with info. Anyone receive this?
Littledoe, and everyone,
Thanks, I didn't attend any information sessions (I wish I had known!) so I am pretty much clueless. I am deciding between this and another program, so I don't really want to click "enroll" until I am sure, but I really wish I felt better informed! I will have to challenge three courses and I just talked to a person who told be we actually have only until July 1 (not the end of the summer session). That is a lot to do by July 1 and I'm a little nervous about it. I don't know anything about registering, which campus I am at, our schedule (though I have heard M-TH mornings for the summer, plus the online stuff) or how the challenging works. Any info would be appreciated!
Hopewellmom - the info session dates were hard to find on the site, so I think most people don't even know of them. To answer your questions...
Ive heard registering will be done at orientation so you'll get help with that there.
Also from what i understand challenging is where they give you the general syllabus, you buy the course book, read/study the sections in the syllabus then take the departmental final. You must get at least a 75% on the finals in order to stay enrolled.
Go to the nursing student services site and BUG any one of these fine people to find out your campus:
Lastly you can look up class times here for the summer:
Rutgers University - Online Schedule of Classes
Just check the appropriate boxes then type in Nursing as the subject on the next page.
I hope this all helps!
Thanks for all the info--very helpful!
I have gotten in touch with some people at Rutgers who have been very helpful. I got the syllabi and instructions for the challenges via email yesterday. I'm glad to have them in hand so I can see what is required and everything. I was surprised to hear that we need to take care of those by July 1st! That is like 5 weeks after we start! She said that is so we can have time to try to get enrolled in the classes if we don't successfully challenge them (but she said that finding courses at that point would be pretty much impossible anyway).
I'm a non-traditional student (read OLD, with three kids). I'm a hard worker, but nervous about doing the coursework, plus the challenges, with the kids on summer break.
Thanks again.
Hopewellmom,
I'm just realizing you has mentioned earlier that you are from Mercer Co so I'm assuming you're in Hopewell. I work weekends in Flemington so it may be a possibility we could meet on weekends somewhere between for study sessions. I hope you decide to enroll! Also, any chance you'd be able to forward the syllabi to me? I'd like to take a look at them as well. My email is [email protected]. Thanks in advance!
Would you mind sending me the syllabi, also? [[email protected]] TIA!
I emailed someone in the department regarding campus assignment on Thursday, no word yet. Hopefully we'll get a little more info prior to the orientations!
I took all the prerequisites except for Cultural Dimensions and Interactive Processes. Cultural Dimensions is only offered at Rutgers, so I know for sure I've got to challenge one. And I've never taken a communcation course, so I'm assuming I'll have to challenge Interactive Processes. When I spoke with the Dean and Administrative Assistant at the information sessions, they said that all of my other coursework will transfer. The only courses you are allowed to challenge are Dimensions, Processes, Nutrition and Developmental Psych. I've taken Nutrition and Developmental Psych so I know for sure I don't have to challenge those. Hope this helps!
Thanks Littledoe,
I typed up a long comment, but it didn't go through. I just wanted to see if anyone was able to officially see which courses they had to challenge, other than just going by our transcripts. I know I will have to take Nutrition. I was a Psychology and Journalism double major and took a similar communications course early on to the one needed here so I'm hoping that is taken as an equivalent. I'm a Rutgers graduate too so hopefully that will help in their decision making on that course. I'm hoping the cultural dimensions course could be replaced with one of my many psych courses, nut not sure. We'll see.
It wouldn't hurt to start studying now. =)

Thanks soo much Nic!
I had no idea and assumed that we were already enrolled since there was no option to "accept." I emailed her right now to let her know.
