Hi Guys, I didn't see a thread for the Rutgers ABSN Summer 2019 so I figured I would start one.
Has anyone applied to the program?
Hi all!! I am applying to the ABSN program this September and wanted to see if anyone can go into a bit more detail about what the online Rutgers application looks like. I would like to be prepared. All my pre request will be done by September 1st- but what else do we need—- essay? Letter of recommendation? Is there a place to post a resume?

Hi! The online application is divided between previous RU students and new prospective students. I did the re-enrollment application which is a bit different. I remember having to write a short essay on why I was coming back for nursing. There was a portion for recognitions/awards you may put down. There was a spot for supporting documents and that’s where I put my resume (from what I remember but there could be a spot for you to upload that) They also got rid of the recommendations portion.
In terms of the new application requirements, it shouldn’t differ from other school applications. I’m pretty sure you can start an application and go back to it whenever you would like to add more information. Just make sure your prerequisites are sent in by October 15th. Start sending them early because they might take some time. You definitely need your CPR card but that should be fairly easy and quick to get.
I hope that answered some of your questions. Good luck!!
Thanks! As far as getting any loans, financial aid, or scholarships- did you have any commentary on those? What did you need in order to get the loan if you received one? Do you know of any scholarships for ABSN programs?

Since it’s a second Bachelor’s degree, whatever financial aid you didn’t use for your undergrad should be awarded to you. Technically, we all have a limit on federal loans for undergraduate and graduate programs (I think 50,000+, not entirely sure). If you only used $10,000 for your first degree, you would get the full undergrad amount that is allowed per semester.
We don’t qualify for grants because it’s a second degree.
I know there are scholarships available and there should be a page for that (look up RU scholarships).
There are other federal loans like the Parent PLUS loans from NJCLASS. You also have the option for private loans.
I got federal loans and that’s all I used. But I know some of my peers applied for private loans and PLUS Loan. Private loans will require a credit check and/or a co-signer to assign you an interest rate. PLUS requires your parent/guardian’s information and references.
Hey,
So I am trying to apply for the spring 2020 cohort. They say we must use the undergraduate application to apply, but that application has no option to choose the accelerated nursing program as the school I want to apply to. It is literally the undergraduate application for high school students. They are asking for the high school classes I have taken and SAT scores. I keep trying to see if I’m in the wrong application, but the links for the program keep redirecting back to the undergraduate application. Today is the day the applications were suppose to open. Maybe they are behind in opening the application? If anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong, or has any advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
Wondering the same thing. Spent the day looking for the option to choose second degree but could only find it for RU - Camden. Did you have any luck finding the application? Wondering if they haven't opened the applications yet because of the Labor Day weekend? Would have been nice to get everything submitted today though, since we were stuck inside because of the rain.

Yea still haven’t had any luck. That’s pretty ridiculous if they did not open the application due to Labor Day. I think this might be the first time they are not using NursingCAS for the application so they are having some difficulties. Hoping to get some information tomorrow now that the long weekend is over.

Did you hear back from another school? You are withdrawing from Newark or NB?
