Rush University GEM Summer 2011!

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hello,

I just found out I got accepted for the GEM (BSN/MSN) program at Rush University for the Summer 2011 cohort! Is there anyone else out there who got in?? I'd figure it would be nice to have some people to talk to about apartment hunting and whatnot. I'm super excited!!!! :nurse:

Congratulations! I also just found out I was accepted! I can't wait to meet everyone and start the program :yeah:

I'm looking into applying for January 2012 start date which the app is due in May....any advice or recommendation?

Congratulations! I just found out that I was accepted too! Have either of you started looking at apartment or living options?

Congratulation Sunshine(again!) and lilred!

I've been looking around frantically for a place (because I'm super excited...) but I'm not having any luck. A lot of my friends are warning me about certain parts of downtown and how tricky it is. I'm definitely not signing anything until I visit the area/place in person! How about you guys? Anyone thinking about looking for a roommate?

Natina - I feel like I had a very well-rounded background. I feel like the interview was a big part of the admission process. I had such an amazing interview and the interviewer I had was so nice...just be genuine and yourself. Have stellar grades, volunteer in your community, and know why you want to be a nurse...and you'll be fine! :nurse:

Would someone who is accepted mind posting what your qualifications were? What was your previous degree in? How much volunteer work did you do or what was on your resume that you feel made you stand out?

Congrats! What neighborhoods are you looking at? I'm not looking for apartments, as I live within commuting distance to the city. I grew up in the Chicago area, so if you need help with neighborhoods/apartment searches, let me know. Craigslist and the Chicago Reader are great resources if you don't want to live in campus apartments. Only 4 more months :nurse:

As far as application/interview and admissions, I agree with Nintzy. Know why you want to be a nurse, why Rush, and just be yourself! The people at Rush for interviews were really great. :)

Congratulations ladies! I also was accepted for the summer 2011 cohort. I am super excited! Have you guys found housing? Where are you looking at? I am hoping to find an affordable apartment in that area but I don't know where to start.

As far as advice for future applicants- I felt like they put a lot of emphasis on why you want to be a nurse so be sure you have a good answer. It seemed they wanted to know that you wanted to be a nurse and were planning on staying in the field and knew what you were getting into. Also if you can work as a CNA or something similar I think that can really benefit your application.

Luv637-

My resume kind of reads as follows:

I got a degree in Anthropology from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

After graduation I got my EMT-B and my CNA.

I don't have a lot of volunteer work but I have worked throughout college and have a lot of different working experience with a lot of good references.

My gpa wasn't great in undergrad- 3.4 but my post-baccalaureate gpa has so far been a 4.0

You probably already found a place, but I would recommend Ukrainian Village near Ashland Ave. You can bike or take a quick bus ride down to class, but in a great neighborhood, and rent can be fairly affordable if you look around a bit. (I live in the area but I don't go to Rush) Try craigslist to find places. Also, congrats on your acceptance. I hope to be in your shoes in about a year or so.

Jess217 - Congrats to you too!! No, I haven't found housing but I found a realtor! I'm hoping to find something decently priced as well. If you're interested, I can also give you info for the realtor I have, she was referred to me by previous Rush student.

Would creating a group on FB help us Summer 2011 cohorts communicate better with each other? Let me know if anyone would be interested!

Whole Life- thanks for the advice! I haven't had any luck on Craigslist, plus it gives me the creeps. I will certainly check this place out! Best of luck:)

Ninzy - I think a facebook page would be great!

Jess217 - Congrats!

Thanks guys!

I think a facebook page is a great idea. And I would love the realtor info! Thanks. :D
