are the really federal or your state rules ? or are they the facility rules?
the reason why im asking how many times do you hear a facility say (example ) that is the state law to have a gait belt to transferred?

There are definate state and federal rules. This is what state surveyors do.. make sure that the facilities are in compliance with state and federal guidelines.

there are definitely laws relating to these things. i'm posting a link to the medicare laws for ltc (these are the federal laws). you will have to find the state laws for your state. the people who will know what and where you can find them are the certified medical record people, the administrator, don or you can check the website of your state public health department. whatever state agency does your facility surveys will be able to cite the titles and numbers of the specific state laws that apply to you. once you know the numbers of these laws, you can usually find them quite easily online.
it is not typical for staff nurses to seek out this specific information. however, i want you all to know that it does exist and that it is not secret information. it is available to anyone in the public to view. these are public laws that were passed by our legislative representatives to the u.s. congress and your various state bodies. we should all take the time to read through and be aware of them. they are not that lengthy. knowledge is power.
