hi there,, i just have a question to ontario nurses regarding declaration of practice,, when you renew your membership at the end of the year,, does the cno ask about how many hours of practice you had? or do you just pay renewal fee? last time i talked to them they told me they really dont have specific number of hours required every year,, because i have a part time RPN work and im wondering i might not meet the number of hours required to renew my license,, i just dont want any problems with them,, im curious if part time RPN work will be acceptable as i only get 1-2 days work in a week at the moment,, and sometimes even less... thanks for all your answers!

You had best call CNO.
Here in AB, CLPNA requires us to declare how many hours we work per year. Failure to meet the required number of hours in a three year period results in no practice permit.
So call CNO tomorrow and get a definitive answer

There is no definitive answer to that question. Ontario does not have a specified number of practice hours required; each nurse is expected to know how many hours they need to work to ensure safe practice. CNO: The amount of nursing practice needed to maintain RPN, RN, or NP competence will vary for individual nurses based on their experience, knowledge and skill level. It is up to each member to determine how much practice is required to maintain that level of competence.
Following this line of inquiry, if a nurse has been registered in Ontario for the preceding 3 years but has been working in a full time locum position in Nunavut for that whole time, s/he will not meet Ontario's requirement because none of those practice hours (about 6000) were worked in Ontario and thus s/he is not eligible for registration in Ontario. S/he'll have to register as non-practicing, resign from the College or else have that Ontario registration revoked. CNO: If you have not practised nursing in Ontario at any time in the previous three years, you will have to answer 'no' to the declaration of practice. You will no longer be eligible to hold registration in the General or Extended classes. You can either apply to register in the Non-Practising Class or resign from the College. If you do not choose either option, your certificate of registration will be revoked.

You will need to declare your hours and declare if you have practiced in ON. Once you've hit the three year mark with no hours, you will have to register in the non practicing class.

They do ask when you renew how much you worked and where.
will i my license be in danger of being revoked if i only work 1-2 days a week as an rpn?
No. As long as you work at least some hours per year IN ONTARIO your license will be renewable. As joanna73 said, when you fill out your renewal each year there's a question about your hours worked as a nurse in Ontario. Since there''s no defined number of hours you MUST work each year, any hours worked in Ontario will count.
1-2 days a week is plenty.
